9-1-1: Rearview Mirror (AO3 Fan Fic)

Season 9 lost me more than once.

Some storylines felt unfinished. Some choices didn't make sense to me. Some characters deserved conversations, consequences, and growth that never made it onto the screen.

This fic is my personal Director's Cut of 9-1-1 Season 9, starting after Episode 10. Everything I don't rewrite remains as aired; everything I do rewrite reflects my own interpretation of where the story could have gone instead.

This isn't an attempt to "fix" canon. It isn't meant to be better than the show, or worse than the show. It's simply mine.

A love letter, a critique, a reimagining, and a what-if all rolled into one.

9x11 - GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE

The annual LAFD bachelor auction puts the spotlight on the firefighters of the 118, forcing them to face insecurities, unexpected attention, and difficult questions about who they are becoming. As May reconsiders her future and new feelings begin to surface, a bizarre accident involving a knitting club sends the team racing into action.

So glad to see you accepting prompts! Took me a minute to think of a BuddieTommy one that seemed fun. How about some AUs where magic exists but either: 1) all of them are mundane (magic-free) or 2) only 1 of them has magic but is unaware of it? Hopefully that sparks something for you 💜

Aww yiss. this is a good one. I pretty much exist in AU's, so I'm going to start with the AU's that I already have going that could work and then work backwards from there. Edit: rereading the prompt, I went off script a bit. Each instance has not all of them having magic, but some of them have the magic user aware of his abilities - Mea Culpa

Unnamed Multiverse Soulmate AU WIP - When the multiverse was shattered into thousands of fragments, Each facet rewrote things slightly differently. People, places, events, all could be different in the different facets of the multiverse. What didn't change, no matter what though, was the Atua, a cosmic being that transcended the bounds of the multiverse. that essence chose a host to protect itself - Evan Buckley. So in one universe, Evan Buckley, unaware of this cosmic power, finds himself alone and seemingly abandoned during the lawsuit era, unable to talk to his best friends and his found family. With but a pained, desperate thought, he longed to be somewhere that he was wanted and loved. And Auta answered, sending him to a facet where there WAS no Evan Buckley, because THAT Evan Buckley sacrificed himself to bring back his brother, Daniel. But Daniel wasn't supposed to exist, so without Evan, the Atua settled within the elder Buckley, who became the Architect and started rewriting his shard to his own twisted desires. Cue Tommy, a shapeshifter without the magic to resist the architect, and Eddie, a lost soul that crawled back out from the abyss upon Evan's return to their shard, and just maybe, they have a chance, if they can show Evan how to harness the power of reality itself before the Architect hunts them all down.

Unnamed Spartacus/KAOS AU WIP - None of them have magic here. Magic is the realm of the gods who might walk among humanity and those that the gods bless, (or curse) with it. Buck, Eddie, and Tommy are gladiators at the same Iudus (gladiator school). Tommy, originally content to live out a life of fame and Buck, willing to settle for slavery to be with Tommy, are both spurred by Eddie, a new arrival with tales of the world outside the gladiatorial arena. Can three humans once again defy the gods, or are they playing exactly into some game from higher up? (the rest aren't as well defined, because they aren't preexisting projects)

The Guardian Angel - Tommy, Eddie's Guardian Angel, looks over him during his time in Afghanistan, protecting him and seeing him home. But angels are not omnipresent or omnipotent, and with time and an increased workload, he lost track of that particular charge. Until a fateful lightning strike almost takes Eddie's life. Tommy's able to shield him from most of the shock that traveled through the ladder. He couldn't shield him from the pain of possibly losing his best friend. So he broke the rules. He brought someone meant to die back to life, and in doing so, lost his own divinity. Years later, he finds them again.

Storybrook AU - Buck breaks his heart in two in order to save Tommy and Eddie from the machinations of the Evil Queen. Now, Tommy and Eddie have to team up to bring Buck back from the darkness. Their magic comes from Buck's heart beating in both their bodies, and they can only use it when together.

Dark Magic AU - Eddie unleashes unspeakable forces in an attempt to get Shannon back. the other two, non practitioners, have to help him put the lid back on the spirit world threatening to spill over into the real.

Buck is baking in the kitchen at the firehouse as per usual and Eddie is happily muching on Buck's cookies until there's a sudden yelp.

Buck freezes and glances away from the cooling rack to see Eddie cradling his cheek. He's bent over slightly, seemingly in pain. The cookie is now dropped onto the counter as Eddie is frozen in his spot.

Hen and Chim glance over, while Ravi and Harry smirk.

"Eddie?" Buck says curiously. "You, uh, okay?"

Eddie doesn't respond at all.

"Chew too fast, you bit yourself?" Ravi says with a smirk.

"Oh no," Chim tsks. "I know what that cheek cradle means."

"Mmmhmm," Hen agrees. "Alright, open up." Hen asks.

Eddie shakes his head. "Nn-nn."

"Don't make me pull the big guns out," Chim says. "Just open your mouth."

Eddie flips his captain off as he tries to walk away.

"Big guns it is. Buckley!"

"Yup!" is all Eddie hears before he feels big arms around his waist and being hauled to Buck's chest. "Come on, Eds," Buck says as he sits Eddie on top of a table.

"Mm 'ine," Eddie barely says.

"You're clearly not, now open your mouth or I'm never making anything baked for you ever again," Buck threatens. Eddie pouts, a tear in his eye as he blinks hard as he opens his mouth.

Buck looks past the chewed-up cookie and sees the culprit of Eddie's pain.

"Is it a cavity?" Hen asks.

"Nope. Worse, he cracked a tooth, right down the middle."

Ravi and Harry wince. "Ouch," they both said.

"With all the sweets you eat, I'm surprised it's not a cavity," Chim says.

Eddie glares at Chim. "I 'oo' ot."

"It's not a secret you love sweets," Hen says. "You nearly bit Andrew's fingers when he tried to take the last cheesecake cookie."

"I remember when Bobby asked who wanted the leftover Banana pudding, and when he turned around with bowls and aluminum foil, you took off with the entire thing in your truck," Chim says.

"You made a strawberry and Nutella sandwich and told me it's healthy cause it has protein powder in it," Buck says.

"I watched you buy a man out of all of his churros and bought a jar of honey from that one lady from the farmers market and eat it in one sitting," Ravi says.

"You volunteered to help me with extra training, ate a whole chocolate cake, and made me practice my fireman carry and go up the stairs," Harry says. "How you still have an eight pack astounds me."

"So, Buckley, you take Diaz and try to get him in for an emergency appointment," Chim says.

"Already on it," Buck says as he pulls his phone out.
