Update: September 2018

Hi everyone!

I'm not sure who's still around, but I figured it was time to post an update. I've given it a lot of thought and I don't think I will be returning to this comic for a long time. Maybe I'll do something closer to the 2019 election time, but for now, I'm going to continue to put this project on the side. I enjoyed working on my comic to poke fun at politics, but ever since the big shift down south with the orange man in power, the entire political landscape has changed. I find it difficult to find humour in the situations going on in the world in general and even within Canada itself during these rough times. Also, with all the cynical, extremist views surfacing right now, the last thing I need in my life at the moment is to get into fights with uneducated, tinfoil-hat style internet trolls who have no intention of having a proper discussion.

On top of this, because of shifts in my own life (mostly taking on huge responsibilities at work), my spare time has receded to almost non-existent status. I can't do the research as thoroughly as I did before to even come up with ideas, and in the time that I do, that article becomes old and dated before I can complete the artwork.

­I got a few requests recently to draw the new leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, so I figured I'd give drawing him a shot. He's actually pretty fun to draw! This update means I will be taking a break from my comic, so unfortunately, this will be the last you'll see of him for a while.

I have been thinking about this for some time, and while I really love working on this comic, I need to put it on hiatus. It is very draining for me to try and keep up on politics and draw content that is (relatively) current events. At the moment, current events have been looking... pretty grim, all over the world, so there's not a whole lot of content I want to draw right now politically. I was also getting really burnt out from drawing, for whatever reason, hence why so few updates lately. I decided, as a bit of art therapy to try to get myself back into drawing, that I would focus on drawing my own characters and just art in general for me. I really need to do this and hope you guys understand.

Thank you all for your support over the past year or so! I never thought I'd garner as much interest as I did, so thank you all so much. Hopefully you guys will still be here whenever it is I decide to come back and pump out more content for Canadia Comic. ♥

The cartoon of JT hugging the plush unicorn is straight-up one of the cutest things I've ever seen in my life. I can't look at it without squealing. Well done.

This comic is great!!! I was just curious what your personal politics are and where you lean and if you have any thoughts about the current NDP leadership race?

Thank you so much for the compliment, Anon! And apologies for the late response.

As for political views, I’m fairly center, sometimes center-left, depending on what the topic is being discussed. I definitely try to have civil conversations when it comes to political discussions. Regardless of what someone’s views are, I think people should be able to talk to one another about their political differences without hating on one side or the other. Divisive politics, the kind of thinking where you hate “the other side” just because they think a certain way, look a certain way, pray a certain way, is unfortunately what the US has become. It is what a lot of the world is becoming. I believe all nations need to learn to work together again by putting aside their personal views and putting their heads together to help solve the problems we are facing right now. Time is too short to spend arguing.

As for the NDP leadership, I haven’t been following it (or much news lately in general), but I will say that those angry people who have been aggressively attacking Jagmeet Singh on the campaign trail for things that have nothing to do with his policies (the way he looks/dresses/his religion), need to back off. That kind of behaviour is not acceptable in Canada.

On July 4th, 2017, Rona Ambrose officially stepped down as the interim leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. She has been replaced by the newly elected Conservative leader, Andrew Scheer.

Even though Rona decided to leave federal politics, she recently stepped up to help Canada as a member of an advisory council for the upcoming NAFTA negotiations.

Why, you might ask, is Rona wearing a suit on a beach? Because, you could say, she always dresses… conservatively.

Unfortunately, because she’s left federal politics, this may be the last picture I’m able to draw of her. So long, Rona - you were fun to draw!

Just got back from Sakura Con last night and I had a lot of fun. Sorry I haven’t had a chance to respond to any asks I received in the last week or two. I’ve been so stressed out with work, convention prep, and my health, that social media fell by the wayside. I will get around to responding to those people soon. Thank you for your patience!
