This is what I get for being a cynic
I thought Season 9 of Castle was a done deal. Maybe there wouldn’t be a Season 10, but I was certain we’d get at least half a season’s worth of episodes where Castle has moved on from deceased Beckett. Cue cringey time-jump to five years in the future where misguided producers are trying to pair him with Hayley.
It wouldn’t have been good. I probably wouldn’t have watched at all, along with thousands of fans tuning out because of what happened with Caskett. It’s pretty hard to trust a show that wreaked havoc on the main reason we all watched for so many years.
(Let’s face it, the last few seasons we didn’t watch for the superb writing...)
So, I’m happily shocked that I was proven wrong today. I’ll be able to watch reruns knowing Beckett doesn’t die in the end, that despite whatever went on behind the scenes, I can enjoy older episodes same as I have before. I’ll also be able to read or write fanfiction without getting sad about a once-great TV couple. Trivial when compared to real life problems, but isn’t that why we watch TV in the first place?
Yes, to quote the many tweets I’ve seen on my timeline, “tons of people just lost their jobs.” Is it a sad day for them? Yes, absolutely, and in that sense I sympathize because my company also closed recently. I say to them what I’ve been telling myself for a while - we will all move on to bigger and better things.
