Canadian Native Samuel Bass Helped Get Slave Freed

Everything (probably) you'd want to know about Canadian Samuel Bass, whose efforts started the process that resulted in Solomon Northup being released from slavery. Northup, a free man, was kidnapped and sold into slavery before the Civil War. He authored a book following his release. That book, Twelve Years a Slave, has been made into a film directed by Steve McQueen. Brad Pitt plays the role of Bass in the picture.
