Candle Dressing 101
Candle magic isn’t just about lighting a wick and making a wish. Dressing a candle is how you charge it with intent before the flame does the work. Here’s a simple way to start:
1. Choose your candle
– White = all purpose, cleansing
– Black = banishing, protection
– Red = passion, energy
– Green = money, growth
– Yellow = clarity, joy
– Blue = peace, healing
2. Carve your intent
– Use a pin, knife, or nail.
– Write names, words, or symbols into the wax.
– Spiral in for drawing to you, spiral out for sending away.
3. Dress with oil
– Rub oil from top to bottom to draw in energy.
– Rub bottom to top to send away.
– Oils can be simple (olive oil) or charged blends (rose, patchouli, clove, etc.).
4. Roll in herbs (optional)
– Love: rose petals, cinnamon
– Protection: sage, basil, black pepper
– Prosperity: bay leaf, mint, chamomile
– Divination: mugwort, lavender
5. Light and let it burn
– Speak your intent into the flame.
– Visualize it as the wax melts.
– Always burn safely.
