Hopefully you check it out and find it satisfactory. 

We're starting to hash out a string of tour dates for the last week of February with well-respected Minneapolis acts Polica and Marijuana Deathsquads. Our trip will start with the last show of the HarMar Superstar/MDS February residency at Austin TX's Mohawk Bar on Feb 24, ending on Feb 29 at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. Needless to say, we are pretty stoked on this. More details to come.

Jason Roebke (upright bass) and Matt Schneider (guitar) played at The Whistler's Relax Attack Jazz Series every Tuesday in October with Josh Berman’s quartet, and they both now have new releases on Candy Dinner’s Solo Series. Candy Dinner is a great music site offering free or donation-based downloads of artists doing really interesting work in various indie/experimental sub-genres.

Roebke and Schneider are the first two artists featured in the Solo Series, which features single take improvisations by different instrumentalists. It’s a real treat to hear players like them start with a simple phrase and let their playing take them wherever it goes over the course of the performance.

Schneider’s performance is a virtuosic deconstruction of his instrument, opening with discrete scratches and ticks that gradually evolve into sounds that are more recognizably “musical”. Short fragments of chords dissolve out of explorations of strings and frets, and the entire performance is remarkable for how he fluidly transitions between dissonant noises and the elegantly constructed themes that emerge from them.

Roebke is a key player in Chicago’s improvised music scene, and he’s an incredible listener in a group setting. What’s great about his solo performances is how sensitive he is in filling or not filling space. It’s a cliche in jazz at this point to talk about the notes someone isn’t playing, but if you ever wondered what that means, listen to Roebke.  He is just as engaged when playing nothing as he is attacking the bass frenetically. His broad sense of texture also comes through great on this recording.

Paul Cary - Iryna

Halte là, amateur de rock'n'roll garage aux relents bluesy bien gras ! Le "Ghost of a Man" de Paul Cary, sorti discrètement l'année dernière, devrait te satisfaire à bien des niveaux. Plus lo-fi que les Black Keys et ni aussi mariné de bourbon ni aussi arty que Tom Waits, "Ghost of a Man" reste un agréable voyage mené par des titres aux accents de standards des années 50, malgré des morceaux complétement dans le sillage du revival retro garage en marche depuis un moment maintenant.

Pour approfondir davantage l'écoute, sachez que l'album est disponible gratuitement (et légalement) chez Candy Dinner.

"Eyeliner" - Tiger Bones

Today marks the release of Tiger Bones' new EP Go Over Here, a four track showcase of their work. Lying somewhere in the realms of post-punk and surf-rock, the tunes are immensely pleasing to the ear. It's available for free (yes, FREE), through Candy Dinner. If you desire the EP on 12" vinyl, which comes with a bonus free track that is an oddly-paired mashup of Joy Division's "Transmission" with Harry Nilsson's "Jump Into the Fire," it's being released by Dedd Foxx and is available over on Insound. Tiger Bones are also one of the many bands playing at SXSW, so check them out if you're able to attend.
