Candy, Verna by another name, watches as Tamerlane Usher settles to sleep. There’s fear there that stings. She knows why, she’s been the reason for enough people, but when Tamerlane’s eyes close, she leans to kiss her forehead softly, letting Tamerlane settle and rest her head on her chest, stroking the girl’s hair softly as she watches her settle, the girl’s fears are clear, even as she finally slips under, but Tamerlane’s sleep won’t be disturbed this time, Verna knows that, she’s made sure as much as she can. So when Tamerlane nestles into her a little more, she smiles, stroking the girl’s hair tenderly. 

  “That’s it, my little bug, you rest for me.”

“Give me another chance... let me prove myself.”    Candy, Verna, speaks softly, her eyes locked on Tamerlane. She can see the woman is shy, nervous, embarrassed by her want even as she moves closer to her, it’s easy to kneel, soft hands covering Tamerlane’s own, her voice soft.    “Darling... let me try?”    Tamerlane’s nod is small, shy and Verna smiles, kneeling up to kiss her softly, stroking hair from her eyes tenderly. She can feel the girl’s shiver and even as she moves to stroke the girl’s cheek again, she promises herself she will be gentle.     It takes time, coaxing, to move Tamerlane from her seat to her bedroom, the two tangled together moments after Tamerlane finally lets Verna undress her. She’s still shuddering with fear even as she allows herself to be settled, allows herself to want.    Release comes on Tamerlane so slowly that she seems almost stunned and Verna finds she chuckles into the soft skin of Tamerlane’s thigh, nipping there lightly, marking her just a little, her smile soft as she works her way back up the same soft, easily marked, skin she already traced with caresses and kisses, now, finally, she believes she can be loved.

A/N: Day 11 for @polyamships Multiamory March.

It had been dumb luck that Candy filled in for Lauren and met Tamerlane Usher, but she had seen and felt her sister’s handiwork on the woman in the weeks after, finally challenging her when Tamerlane cracked. Candy had been the one to pull the poker from Tamerlane’s hands, cradling her as she wept and yelling angrily for her sister to knock it off. Verna, she revealed later, had died young to a deal their father made with a man he called simply ‘Raven’. The change from human to Ravenkind had followed, the act of a wronged daughter. Now though, now she was more. Verna had stopped at the sight of her sister cradling a sobbing and bleeding Tamerlane, her soul tugged to protect the girl. Now, of course, now she had to choose to stay with her double and the woman she clearly loved, or leave. She chose to stay. Choosing love, for once. Love had bloomed in the weeks that followed, Tamerlane sleeping easier in the arms of her lovers, soothed by Verna’s Raven ways and Candy’s sweet love. It was new, easy and true.
