So, when this came out. I ummed and uhhed..I don't do horror but the trailer looked really good, I also knew I wanted to compare it to the OG Candyman but that one is a bit harder to find. Well, scrolling through Stan and look pops up in their new addition section? The 2021 take of Candyman. I decided to finally give it a watch. Hold up. Wait. Your telling me this is inspired by a true story. Not only based on the original works of Candyman but inspired by a serial killer who killed people under the alias "Candyman." Bruh..that's messed up. Of course they uses the Candyman song. 😂 I got 26mins in and went "I wanna turn this off." Like it just felt like it took too long to get to the point, it just felt like another racially motivated movie that I've already seen thousands of times by different blak film-makers. When Anthony broke down his painting, my first thought was "Oh. This is a fictional telling of Emmett Till." , he was lynced all cause of a white woman. Candyman, the hooked man earlier on was lynced by white police but those police were on the look out because of a crazed white woman. I understand the whole point of blak history was constantly having been brought down by white people and know a lot of blak artists will raise their voice to fight for their past,present and future but when your remaking a story like this. I was hoping you'd get straight to the point on the Candyman and not linger too long on a man struggling to find an idea for his career. I do have to admit that it's quite creative on how they showed the candyman, it wasn't a straight up "here's the bad guy." But rather, let's play with mirrors,shadows and other illusions while they butchered those who say candyman 5 times. When you notice that majority of the victims are white, it's kinda funny cause like..you know what..we deserve it. Like come on, we're privilege dumbasses who have no respect for other cultures.
