hello! i've played quite a few of the ND games, but not as many as you! I just finished Ghost of Thorton Hall and I'm considering buying another to play! I'm deciding between The Secret Spy and Alibi in Ashes because I tend to really enjoy getting to move around town and go to multiple locations. Which game would you suggest of those? I want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck :)
This is a tough question!! Those games are pretty well matched for me. Neither one is a favorite of mine tbh but they’re not bad or anything.
They both have a layer of personal stuff for Nancy--SPY is a lot more emotional because it involves Nancy discovering stuff about her mom. But ASH is neat because you get to actually explore Nancy’s hometown and you get to see her friends interacting in their homebase.
ASH is more classic detective work (fingerprinting and collecting evidence and stuff) and SPY is more about action-based adventure and cracking secret codes.
The characters in ASH are both more interesting but also more infuriating than the characters in SPY imo.
I’d say SPY has tougher puzzles but the gameplay of ASH is longer.
Because you want a game that involves moving around town in multiple locations, I’d say go for ASH unless anything else I’ve said here changes your mind. Also if you’re planning on getting the next game that comes out in the fall, I’d recommend ASH so you get to know Deirdre :)
