do you have any suggestions for getting into aa? i’m seeing your amazing art and have seen other people’s and i’m really interested in all the characters and the relationships i’ve seen so far, but have no idea where to start with the games, or if i even should start with the games (since i know that the game play and fun fan content are often so different) please help im desperate
easiest (and most correct) answer is for you to play the games! chronologically. it goes:
aa trilogy (phoenix wright: ace attorney, justice for all, trials and tribulations)
aai (ace attorney investigations) duology (note: there's no official localisation for aai2, but there's a fan translation patch available online)
apollo justice
dual destinies
spirit of justice
will say the games are flawed so there's a chance you might not enjoy them? but if you're the type who likes feeling vindicated from being correct this is definitely the series for you. (but if you don't wanna play them i'm p sure someone uploaded playthroughs for all the games up on youtube! so you can check that out if you want)
re: characters. there are REEEAAALLLYYY good canon relationship dynamics that get Even Better when you properly consider them. if the fan content you've seen is based on/extrapolated from canon content then i Assure you the games will leave you with Much Thinking.
aside from the games in the main timeline:
the localised ver of dgs (dai gyakuten saiban/the great ace attorney) duology is gonna be released in july iirc. focuses on phoenix's ancestor who's a lawyer during the meiji era. wicked game mechanics. i've been told they're the best games in the entire series (and best played without spoilers. even the music is spoilers apparently. frightening)
professor layton vs phoenix wright crossover game! afaik it's not canon (and also i've not played this) but i think it's got a mix of game mechanics between the two, which is cool.
aa anime: 2 seasons! they're a little awkward but also really funny. not necessarily faithful to the source tho. there's filler content focused on phoenix and miles during their childhood that isn't in the games (the creator of aa wrote them in) sprinkled in there and they're very good.
truth be told i'd advise you against consuming fanworks before the games (unless you don't plan on playing them, which is very valid) so you can form your own Ace Attorney Mental Cabinet without being colored by existing ideas! plus some of the takes i've seen are. questionable.
dude i just listened to your bifrost incident/mag 200 audio edit and it’s sO good holy crap. the actual pod couldn’t make me cry but this did boy howdy i’m a mess and it’s amazing and god your mIND. i saw in your tags tho that you said that you’d planned an edit for arms outstretched depending on how mag 200 ended, and i’m just wondering if you’re actually gonna make an edit with this ending cause i’d love for you to wreck my whole shop twice
OH that’s really nice to hear!! Or sorry? Nice is maybe not a good word in response to ‘you made me cry’ but y’know, that was kind of my intent with the edit. I’m by no means a musician nor do I pretend to know anything about music theory but I LOVE dropping music in the background of things, especially sad scenes it really kicks it up a notch, and End of the Line is such a perfect song in itself, the way you manage to make a guitar chord sound mournful.... Mwah
And uhhh... look. All I’m saying is I do currently have audacity open as well as Griffin McElroy’s bandcamp page.
idk if anyone’s asked this yet but is your comic based in the Oregon Willamette Valley? cause that would be really cool if this wonderful comic is based in my home state 👉🏼👈🏼 👀
It is! That’s where I live, and I love it here 😊 It’s so beautiful! Plus I can drive downtown to take pics anytime I need reference since I set it in my hometown 😂
i just wanna let you know that i love all your tma designs, and i am absolutely engrossed and obsessed with all things sorrel??? what is he up to these days, how’s he dealing with the voices
okay so... im at a standstill with sorrel because i have a VERY LONG music video planned, but in working on this Magnus archives music video im realizing this shit takes so much longer than i can handle, so im gonna brain storm what to do about this, i have some fun ideas for him, but theres a big video planned next for him, and god knows how long thats gonna take. If I decide its too much ill do a comic about whats gonna happen next. But, all this in the future.
watching you and Fen get together from the sidelines has been absolutely amazing. I’m so glad it finally happened ❤️❤️❤️
A very good shance song is “Cooler than Me” by Mike Posner, but it’s very much a playful back and forth they sing with big goofy grins
If I could write you a song to make you fall in loveI would already have you up under my armI used up all my tricks, I hope that you like thisBut, you probably won’t, you think you’re cooler than meYou got designer shades just to hide your faceAnd you wear ‘em around like you’re cooler than meAnd you never say hey, or remember my nameAnd it’s probably 'cause you think you’re cooler than me
how about some fluffy shance surprise lunch date (maybe proposal??)

It's been a hard week for the both of them. Lance has taken three cumulative finals in as many days, and Shiro has been dealing with an influx of panicked, pleading students in addition to administering his own tests. But the week is over, now, and the tight knot of anxiety that Lance has carried in his chest for the last month has begun to unravel.
"Knock knock," Lance says as he swings by Shiro's office, around one on the last real day of the semester. Shiro—dressed in his usual ensemble of gray slacks and pale button-up—looks up from his desk.
"Hey," Shiro greets.
"Whatcha up to?"
Shiro sighs. Leans back in his chair. Pinches the bridge of his nose beneath the frame of his clear plastic glasses and mutters, "Contemplating why I chose this as a career path."
"Well," Lance says fondly as he steps into Shiro's cramped office. He knows Shiro loves his job as a history professor, even with the stress. "How about a small break?" He holds up the lunch bag he packed before heading over. It's little more than sandwiches, chips, and a couple cans of coke, and he tells Shiro as much.
"It's the gesture," Shiro says. "You thought of me. It's sweet."
The tips of Lance's ears burn. They may have been dating for three years—ever since the moment Lance left Shiro's Introduction to World History class—but Shiro still manages to make Lance's heart beat faster with his generosity and small, eye-crinkling smiles.
They eat at Shiro's desk and talk about a variety of little things. How their mornings were. If they have time to catch the new superhero movie tomorrow night. Shiro's dad and the picture he sent them of his ever-changing garden. Their enormous maine coons, Blue and Bee.
"What time are you going to be home?" Lance asks when they're finished. He crumples sandwich wrappers and the chip bag into a ball and tosses it into the trashcan by the door.
"As soon as I finish with this stack of essays." Shiro pats a stack of papers. "Probably around six or seven?"
"Okay, cool. I'm gonna hit the gym with Hunk and Keith at three. I was thinking ramen tonight? With a side of ramen?"
"Sounds good to me."
Lance kisses Shiro, a quick dry thing that lands more on the side of his mouth than in the center, before standing up and rounding the corner of Shiro's desk. He's nearly to the door, his hand inches from the knob, when Shiro blurts,
"Lance, wait."
Lance stops and looks over his shoulder, one eyebrow cocked. "Yeah?"
Shiro's face is contorted in confusion. His gaze flickers to the mess of papers on his desk. His lips turn down into a frown. Then—with one short nod to himself—his expression solidifies into determination.
"I've been thinking about how to do this for a while now," Shiro explains as he opens the top drawer in his desk. Lance knows from experience that the drawer is no more than a chaotic mess of cheap pens, post-it notes, and paperclips. "And I was planning on asking you when we visited my parents in a few weeks—there's this state park with a lake I know you'd like—but I—I love you, more than I know how to explain."
Shiro is very suddenly on one knee in front of Lance. There's a tiny black box in his hand, oddly disproportionate to the size of the future it contains.
"I don't want to wait anymore," Shiro says. "To let you know how much you mean to me. To let the world know how much you mean to me."
"Shiro—"
"Will you marry me?" Shiro asks as he opens the box. Lance barely sees it—something silver and sapphire—because he is too busy looking at Shiro. "And be mine for the rest of our lives?"
Lance feels the prick of tears. His throat swells. This is not how he imagined being proposed to, in this tiny space with its threadbare carpet and the permanent smell of old coffee, but none of those things matter. What does matter is the man before him, and the honesty and hope he sees in his perfectly gray eyes.
"Oh, Shiro," Lance murmurs as he curls one trembling hand around Shiro's cheek. "I already am."
