keeper’s keeper || lydia & stray
It wasn’t unusual or Lydia to drag bags and buckets of food and toys and whatever to shelters on her free time. And of that she, lately, had plenty, trying to occupy herself with whatever else than going back to the club and meeting the person she tried to avoid so badly. At first it was hard, but all the puppies and kitties helped with the detox quite a bit. Today she went again, after a pause of a week, cheerful and chirping to all the animals spinning around her feet. They already knew her, the tiny blonde lady with a lot of snacks and one that would pet and chat with them for hours. For as long as she could allow herself to. This time was a little bit different than all the others, however.
A tiny dark brown fur covered bundle crawled out with his brother and sister, all different and all of them were joyful, but the first one she saw—that was the one she immediately fell in love with, struck by the beauty of the active thing wagging his miniature tail at her as fast as he could. Lydia knelt down for the puppy to come running to her, picked him up and looked at him for a good few moments before deciding on it. While she couldn’t be one to keep it, she knew exactly who would. A frowning, blue eyed cane corso now holding on to her for dear life seemed perfect for someone like Stray. Surely, the man would love him to pieces, she already saw how he was with Candy and now he would have a puppy of his own. All the clothes, toys, Halloween or Christmas costumes.. She was so happy with herself that she picked the boy up, scratching behind his ear as the thing held his head on her shoulder, tightly pressed to her neck and sighing.
She hoped he wouldn’t ask just how she found where he lived, because it was a whole other story, and one she wasn’t planning on sharing. But now as she was near his door and the dog wrapped up under her coat so the man wouldn’t be able to see it (surprise surprise..!), she, back to the door, hit it with the heel of her boot. “Stray! Open up. I have a gift for you, come on.” God she hoped he was home and not some buddy of his which would..complicate things a little bit. Then, she heard the door crack behind her and she turned, revealing the ‘gift’. “Surpriiise!”
