I hate the fascists in charge too, but some of y’all need to realize that making fun of people (no matter who) for things they can’t control (looks, physical disabilities, medical issues, etc.) is you doing harm to other community members.
Not very community minded or intersectional of y’all.
gotta stop clenching my jaw/grinding my teeth but I’m so entirely unaware I’m doing it like 90% of the time
my truck won’t start and I’m like 95% sure it’s the battery is just too cold, but if it isn’t I’ll have to go buy a new battery tomorrow (after paying rent) and hope that its not the starter
technically we have the day off, but good thing I came in to check on things, because I have another swallowtail that must’ve emerged yesterday :)
cute ass chair off marketplace and old lady selling it said she has a bunch more stuff . said whatever she doesn’t sell I can come pick through for free!
I don’t even like Emily Brontë that much, but y’all know Heathcliff wasn’t white, right? Did y’all read the book???? You know that him not being white is like a huge part of the context?????????
folks love to say “it’s up for debate” (quotes from the book below that reference Heathcliff)
- “dark-skinned g***y”
- “g***y brat”
- spoke with “some gibberish that nobody could understand” (non-European language)
- skin tone described as “dark, almost as if it came from the devil”
- referred to as “a little Lascar, or an American or Spanish castaway” (“lascar” was a term used for Indian and Southeast Asian sailors)
Additionally the Brontë Parsonage Museum themselves have acknowledged that he may have been of “black African descent”.
They also suggested that Brontë was likely to have been inspired by historical figures like Fredrick Douglas, and that later interpretations of the book reflect changing cultural comfort (ex. people like this movie director imagining Heathcliff as white because she always imagined herself as Cathrine which is something she stated btw).
You completely misunderstood Wuthering Heights if you have decided you want/are okay with white-washed Heathcliff, and are probably part of the groups of people Brontë was being critical of btw.
