my favourite thing about you! god, that's a hard one actually, because there are so many things that i adore about you. i think my favourite thing would have to be your honesty. it's rare to find someone who is honest in most senses of the word - you're honest in feedback, in compliments, in assistance, in acceptance of yourself and the way you write and talk and think. it's hard to trust people, often, when they say kind things about my character or my work, but i've never thought to question you since you don't seem interested in saving people's feelings when improvement could better them. i respect you immensely for that and for much else.
@canonintheory - you've done it. i AM going to talk about why the lighting is important. (yes, i worked in theatre. yes, ive been obsessed with the wizard of oz and surrounding media since i was two years old. yes, ive seen the stage music twice and the first movie thrice and read the book at twelve which i should not have done.)
wicked. one short day. this tends to be consistent with most productions - sometimes they change things up, obviously, but what tends to stay the same is - green lighting and galinda's yellow dress.
"so what if she's wearing yellow" ill TELL YOU what. elphaba has been visibly out of place her whole life. internally, certainly, but more obviously because she's green. in this scene, we can tell she feels at home because of the lyrics of the song - but what most theatregoers dont clock is that you FEEL her inclusion too because of the lighting and costuming; at the expense of galinda's.
(because that's how it works, isnt it? galinda cant get what she wants (power and renown) if elphaba is safe. elphaba cant get what she wants (political peace and acceptance) if galinda has the spotlight. its why they're a tragedy.)
it's the emerald city. it's all grand, and it's all green, right? so all the lights are dazzling shades that blend right into elphaba's skin - and mask the natural colours of the other cast members, making them all green too. they're all washed in green, elphie's green, for the first time she blends in.
and then there's galinda.
sticking out like a sore thumb in this obtrusive yellow dress that is never quite masked by the lights.
elphaba, who has finally found the place she fits in, where all the green makes her feel at home. and galinda, who is for once in her life the odd one out.
you don't just hear elphaba's feelings of acceptance. you see them, too. you just might not notice.
if your oc was offered unlimited wealth for life, but had to accept one condition to receive it, what kind of condition would they refuse—no matter how much money was at stake?
fuck it, i'm doing this for all of them (the main ones, at least. sorry to the entire quantico crew + fish/felix/birdie/max). this is actually such a good way to get real insight into their personalities, but i'm not going to write a 3k essay here so if you want me to follow up on any of them, just say the word and i'll yap for hours!
