Ice cream taste test time. At St Joseph's School, Rm 1 and 2 joined together with some teenager helpers (aka chief taste testers). The girl in the last picture is beaming because she is dairy intolerant and didn’t miss out because our try with coconut milk worked well. Golden syrup, strawberry and peanut butter were favourites as well as honey and oats.

Thanks School kit for the awesome experience of making ice cream with all the breakfast ingredients. The Year one students loved the shake shake shake and the taste taste taste. They learnt about the hot transferring to the cold which made the ice cream go hard as the ice melted in the outer bag. We had enough ingredients sent to us to share the love

Room 3 at St Peter's Catholic, Cambridge, loved the 'Breakfast Ice Cream' School Kit experience. Baked Beans and Miso weren't so bad after all!

I teach a year 1 and 2 class at Maungatapu School. We have loved making and experimenting with flavours we can use for breakfast ice cream! We were super surprised at how it turned out - it was pretty much real ice cream! The kit was put together so well, we were very impressed. Thanks so much for your help and efforts organising this.

Room 20 at Stanmore Bay School loved creating our breakfast inspired ice cream! We learnt a lot of science along the way and it was magic before our eyes when the cream mixture turned into ice cream!

Thanks School Kit Squad, we had an amazing day today making ice cream at Rata Street School. The kids were all very excited and so we had to make a day of it!

27 year 3 and 4s and I had a fabulous day today learning about mixtures, solutions and colloids, discussing breakfast foods, making and sampling ice cream, and conducting a statistical inquiry about our favourite breakfast ice cream flavours based on the morning's tastings. Lots of fun, lots of learning and teamwork, lots of squeals and lots of mess. Despite double bagging, several of the ice bags leaked, and despite my having provided each child with a plate and spoon for sampling purposes, lots of runny ice cream dripped on the carpet... Hard to tell which was the outright favourite as different numbers of children sampled each one, but Miso was clearly the least popular, with plain and strawberry (predictably) being very popular.

We absolutely loved it! And what I love more, is the anticipation before receiving the kit. As soon as I told the kids we had an ice-cream kit coming and we were all going to learn how to make it, and complete some science experiments around it, the children were instantly engaged and excited about the learning. We all know that when students are fully engaged in their learning, the learning is effective. So thank you for helping me engage, inspire and extend my students.
