With age, the amount of pigment that is present into each strand of hair gets reduced, that's why it turns gray and eventually white. If it occurs at an early age it is known as premature greying of hair. Following are the causes of premature greying of hair : - Genetics - Vitamin and mineral deficiency - Hypothyroidism - Hormonal imbalances - Anaemia - Chemical in hair products - Smoking - Oxidative stress To prevent premature greying one should take proper balanced diet and reduce stress. If a person has already developed premature greying he/she should undergo tests to know exact cause of their greying of hair. Treatment of premature greying can only arrest further progression of greying and includes calcium pantothenate supplementation along with specific mineral or vitamin supplementation if there is any.
