I watched Green Arrow and the Canneries and all I could think was Dinah and Laurel are raising their adopted daughter Mia together in the clock tower

Happy statehood day to Alaska, which became the 49th state of the United States on this day in 1959, when President Dwight Eisenhower signed a proclamation admitting Alaska to the Union.

This undated photograph of an Alaskan salmon cannery was taken by Frank H. Nowell (1864-1950), who relocated from New Hampshire to Alaska in 1885 and established a small photography studio in Nome in the early 1900s.

The image is part of the Hagley Library’s collection of Chamber of Commerce of the United States photographs and audiovisual materials, Series II. The donor of this label wrote away to the Wattie's factory in 1959 to request unused labels for a school project that her daughters had been assigned. Subsequently, many of those labels were donated to the Library. It is helpful to know this provenance because we can offer a fairly definite date of when the label was in use, making the material much more useful to future researchers.
