La jupe de cette toilette, en velours cert russe, est disposée en gros plis creux et montée sur un empiècement en soie crème, brodée en soie verte et fils d'or; une bande de soie semblable cercle le bord inférieur de la jupe, garnie de plis religieuse. Cette disposition est répétée sur le boléro plissé, tombant librement par-dessus la haute ceinture en panne drapée; les devants s'ouvrent sur un plastron en mousseline de soie crème plissée. On exécute les poignets et le col droit en soie brodée. Les manches, disposées en plis, sont cerclées d'une bande de soie crème.

The skirt of this gown, made of certified Russian velvet, is arranged in large box pleats and mounted on a cream silk yoke, embroidered with green silk and gold threads; a similar silk band encircles the lower edge of the skirt, trimmed with narrow pleats. This design is repeated on the pleated bolero, which falls loosely over the high, draped velvet waistband; the front opens to reveal a pleated cream silk chiffon bodice insert. The cuffs and the standing collar are made of embroidered silk. The sleeves, also pleated, are trimmed with a band of cream silk.

On January 3, 1959, Alaska became the 49th state, requiring a redesign of the Stars and Stripes. Here, Grace Traube, an employee of Annen & Co. on lower Fifth Avenue, one of the largest flag manufacturers in the country, displays two proposed designs. Whichever was chosen, it didn't last long, as Hawaii became the 50th state just eight months later.
