about the aro/ace post question: I'm aroace and I do not feel romantic attraction, but I desperately want to be in a romantic relationship. I personally think it might be due to growing up in such a romance-focused society. There's also ace ppl out there that enjoy the act of sex, but do not feel sexual attraction. I hope that helps some!

I guess I don’t understand why you’d want something you’re also not interested in. It feels like me saying “Damn, I want some hummus” when I can’t stand chickpeas.

You're well versed in spongebob lore, do you know if there's any canon evidence that all fish characters have similar length lifespans? Or is it possible they all have different length expected lifespans? There's so many throwaway gags about people living Too Long that I've always kinda wondered what their life expectancies were like.

not really, no. i know in the comics its canon spongebob, squidward and plankton will all be alive like... i dunno, something like a thousand years from canons time, but mr krabs and patrick won’t be (patrick is survived by a descendant) and i don’t know if they were just... killed, or died of old age. but! thats the comics, and ymmv on whether anything in the comics count as canon (i like to incorporate aspects of the comic continuity into my interpretation of cartoon continuity so for me, kind of) so using it as evidence for anything isn’t exactly the greatest idea... but other than that, i dunno

all fish characters have such random and inconsistent age spans - main/supporting characters are consistent (pearl is always 16, krabs and plankton are always middle aged, spongebob + patrick + sandy are always college graduate age, ect) but like... anyone else is not really consistent. one episode they may be way younger than a main character or another they may be way older, in some they may be the same age as a main character... with wildly different names, sometimes... which makes it a bit hard to compare lifespans, you know? there’s this one background character who is meant to be much older than krabs (one of the old man jenkins...es, who hasnt yet been given a different name like old man walker has) who was depicted as the same age as krabs in the friend or foe flashbacks. so you COULD assume he has a shorter lifespan than krabs so he aged faster, but ... that’s not like, solid evidence of anything

but the upside is even if there isnt evidence FOR it, its still a non-continuity gag cartoon with inconsistent portrayal of minor and background characters that are all ultimately representative of human beings that are all treated more or less the same in terms of their roles in society and how theyre written and age - so assuming that all marine life in the setting have a similar lifespan isn’t exactly contradictory to canon

ooh, interesting... i think i can see what you’re saying too

i know nick had some cartoons that were almost on par with disney channel’s in terms of maturity? while cn had like... teen titans and then everything else was at the same level of maturity as dexter’s lab at best, not counting adult swim

so with a few exceptions, there was barely anything intellectual going on over at cn until adventure time, while nick was pumping out stuff like those good ol’ thornberries on a regular basis
