EASTERN MARKET, DETROIT
by Cannon Dill and Brett Flanigan
Endless Canvas reports that in May, 2013 Bay Area artists Flanigan and Dill created a series of nine collaborative pieces together as part of a spontaneous mural tour. Stopping off in Detroit the two painted this distinctive work on Winder St. in the heart of the Eastern Market neighborhood—a district that has since become home to the “Murals in the Market” project begun in 2015. Dill’s intricate black and white work, built on a foundation of exploring nature and folk-tales, contrasts remarkably well with more abstract and colorful style of Flanigan, providing a basis for their collaboration and explaining the ability to pull together such an extensive tour more or less on the fly. Endless Canvas says their 2013 collaborations were all “themed around nature and at times grew into such abstraction that they could only be referred to as the Wild Style of Character Graffiti.” @cannondill @brettflanigan @endlesscanvas @easternmarket @muralsinthemarket
