Episode 483 (S03E66) : Hug^[tm] Spoilers
When Khun says “Don’t blame yourself”, his speech bubble was spiked. He spoke these words forcefully, as if he were trying to fight every doubt in Bam’s mind with just his voice. He knows Bam must face the reality of the tower on his own terms, but that doesn’t mean he can’t stand between Bam and his demons.
Khun will be there to ensure that there is kinder, more forgiving voice outside of Bam’s head--louder than the one spewing poison inside.
If that means he has to do something totally out of character, then so be it.
The way Bam hugs Khun evokes desperation. Desperation to grab onto Khun with all all the strength he has. Desperation to keep Khun where he is, safe and with him. Desperation to keep his head buried in Khun’s chest and to just live this way: happy and with someone he loves--not miserable and having to surround himself with death and betrayal.
Not only has Bam found his own reasons to fight, he found the two with whom he wanted to climb the tower (we can never forget their leader, Rak Wraithraiser--NEVER).
Sanity is kept when you can lay yourself bare to someone you trust and Bam fulfilled this by entrusting his vulnerability to Khun.
Khun has no illusions about himself. He has done cruel things to get to where he is, allowed cruel things to happen, and will continue to do so. If he wants to climb this tower, he cannot do anything less.
He may be apathetic to the deaths he caused, but that doesn’t mean he excuses or relishes in his apathy.
For that reason, when he says Bam is incredible for remaining the way he is despite holding the power he has, Khun is not giving lip service. He truly believes Bam is a better person than him and Hoaquin. He truly sees a heart that is practically a miracle in this forsaken tower.
And he wants to go to the ends of the earth to protect the one this heart belongs to.
I personally like translation of AdiosCorea ((Alternate Link)) better, but for the sake of being fair, I think the webtoons version is more accurate. For this particular line, at least. The literal translation is even more cut and dry then the webtoons version.
However, just because Khun leaves out the “I’m doing this for you” line doesn’t mean Khun isn’t doing this Bam.
Khun would never do this for anyone else because he is--in his words--terrible at this. He is terrible at this because he just doesn’t do this kinda s#!t. He is putting himself so far outside his comfort zone that he can’t even see his comfort zone. “Kindness is contagious”, Rachel had said and for Bam, Khun has allowed himself to be infected.
THAT SAID...
...I WILL NEVER GET OVER HOW THEY CHANGED THIS LINE TO “Never doubt those feelings of yours.” NO. NO. IF MY BASIC-ASS TRANSLATOR CAN GIVE ME A FULL SENTENCE, THEN THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG HERE.
See, Khun using the word “heart” has more impact than the flimsiness of “feelings”. Ignoring how the heart is just a soul-less organ that can be replaced with a mechanical pump, the use of heart on a spiritual level equates to the core of what makes a person who they are.
Feelings are fickle and victim to what’s occurring at the moment--hearts are the unmovable object to an unstoppable force.
Khun uses that in correlation to Bam. This is the same man describing how he doesn’t feel anything for the deaths he used during war. Yet, in his next breath, he praises how different Bam is from him, firmly explaining how this war does not define who Bam is at his core.
GDI ENGLISH TRANSLATION TEAM.
Hwaryun is being smart and knows that:
Khun is protesting on Bam’s behalf and doesn’t actually give two cents about the others’ condition lol
To be fair, Hwaryun, Khun means that he’s objective towards Bam
For him, he’s Bam-jective, so your point is totally moot
Khun knows Bam is not a God. He knows Bam is a human with godly powers. He knows Bam pushes himself until he’s bloody and bruised. He knows Bam takes everything on himself until his shoulders creak then break under the weight. So, even when he knows Hwaryun is right, Khun can’t help his desire for Bam to just get a fkkn breather and be himself for even a little bit.
Choosing not to only let Rachel live but to save her
Protecting Miseng at the cost of getting himself hurt
Giving a super long hug topped with an emotional and supportive speech, all in the middle of a war
“This is not like you,” data-Kiseia had once said to Khun. Everything Khun has done for Bam would make him unrecognizable to almost every person who knows him. This is not because Bam is the one changing him. Bam is doing nothing to Khun--all he’s doing is being his sincere, heartbreaking self. It is Khun’s love for Bam that is contributing to the growth we’re seeing from him.
The tower never meant for Khun to have a heart of his own, but Khun is defying all the rules because in this tower, there is Bam.
