NGC 7822 - The Question Mark Nebula This nebula is found in the constellation Cepheus. This is another target inspired by @robert_leach90 that I was finally able to get started on. Because it's more North then East, this is currently a difficult target for me, and that doesn't include the clouds I had rolling in! M33 - The Triangulum Galaxy - Another target that I attempted last year when I first started doing DSO that I wanted to go back and attempt again. . I am happy with the improvement from last year - which has been the ltinste goal with most of my imaging, to simple improve. The Orion and Running Man Nebulas by Amazing Sky Photography The Orion Nebula, aka Messier 42, at centre, with the blue Running Man Nebula (NGC 1973-5-7) above it. The smaller nebula attached to the top edge of M42 is M43. The blue star cluster at top above the Running Man is NGC 1981; the loose star cluster below M42 is NGC 1980. This is a stack of 8 x 5-minute exposures with the Canon EOS Ra mirrorless camera at ISO 800 unfiltered, blended with a stack of 6 x 8-minute exposures at ISO 1600 but through the dual-band Optolong L-Enhance filter that records the faint red nebulosity very well. Blending and masking the filtered with the unfiltered shots allows the faint red nebulosity to come through while retaining the blues, magentas and even subtle greens of the bright nebulosity and the blue of the hot stars as recorded by the “white-light” images. These two sets of long exposures are blended using luminosity masks with a set of 6 x 60-second exposures and 4 x 30-second exposures, both at ISO 400, for recording the bright core of M42 with its Trapezium stars that would otherwise be overexposed into a bright mass with only long exposures. The short exposures were all unfiltered. I applied a high-pass sharpening filter to snap up contrast in the dark lanes. All were through the SharpStar HNT150 Hyperbolic Newtonian Astrograph at its native fast focal ratio of f/2.8 for a focal length of 420mm. Taken from home in Alberta on January 28, 2020. Testing the Canon EOS Ra: Why It’s Worth it for Astrophotographers

Trevor Jones of AstroBackyard just recently got his hands on a specific niche video camera that will be incredibly fascinating to astrophotographers… … and almost no one else: the Canon EOS Ra . In the video above, he takes it out for a test shoot to flaunt the 2 functions that set this cam apart when it pertains to severe night sky shooting.

The full-frame mirrorless EOS Ra was launched silently and didn't trigger much of a stir when it was, for the easy factor that it's an extremely specific niche item. There are just 2 distinctions in between the routine Canon EOS R and the EOS Ra: increased level of sensitivity to the 656nm hydrogen-alpha wavelength, and a 30x live view focus help mode. For the majority of us, neither of these will work (in truth, the increased 656nm level of sensitivity might destroy some pictures) however for astrophotography, these functions assist validate the additional $800 it'll cost you to get the EOS Ra over its non-astro brother or sister.

As Jones shows in the video above, the 30x live view mode makes pin-point astrophotography focus a breeze, and as soon as he connects the cam to a star tracker, he's able to shoot a stunning picture of the Heart and Soul nebula in more brilliant color thanks to the cam's 4x level of sensitivity to that hydrogen-alpha wavelength.
