Are you in favour of strategic voting? If so, do you know of any websites that assist Ontario voters in making a strategic choice?
Yes when there is a coordinated effort backed by lots of data that correctly identifies the strategic vote in a particular riding. Because if there is not a coordinated effort for thousands of people to strategically vote all the same way, it won’t work. It didn’t work in the last federal election.
In this election it doesn’t make sense to strategically vote in my opinion (vote differently based on the riding). Strategic voting only makes sense when the two left-centre parties are polling close to each other, and there’s no momentum shift. That’s not the case in this election. The NDP has emerged as the only viable party to back if you want to stop Ford. The Liberals are polling under 20%. The NDP is polling from 30%-37%. The NDP is the strategic vote here if you don’t want Doug Ford.
I’m using two different definitions of strategic voting here. I don’t believe voting differently on a riding to riding basis here will work, because only one party has the momentum. It is strategic to back the NDP because they’re the only viable challenger to Doug Ford. Plus why would you want to re-elect Liberal MPP’s after the way they’ve acted lately? Its a win-win to vote NDP.
