It’s no surprise that Kanye went all-in on a full-page apology in The Wall Street Journal to write-off his wrongdoings. Wild take: I call bullshit, Your Honor.
He's had a long history of outrageous behavior. He made death threats and antagonized borderliner / fellow mental health sufferer Pete Davidson over being with Kim Kardashian. He’s weaponized porn and shoved it in Adidas and Yeezy employees' faces. He's humiliated and berated women, plus psychologically damaged and bullied other people on a regular basis. I won’t even start with his views on slavery or anti-Semetic antics.
Adidas isn’t the only company who broke their moral compass to put the almighty dollar over everything. They didn’t stop at mistreating employees and bolstering a hostile work environment, but Anti-Semetic views was where they drew the line. It should be clear that both are two different kinds of fucked up; as if everything listed here is not already to begin with. Bottom line.
Whether one is suffering or not, you’re responsible for your actions. He’s acknowledged his. I’ll give him only that. What he’s done was intentional, and too grandiose to ignore and write off. No one goes to great lengths to display Anti-Jewish beliefs by accident and blame that on mental issues. There’s no need to put out a full-page plea when the former companies he’s worked with and created, and the online press enabled him - especially days before his new album comes out. (The Life Of Pablo was produced by Rick Rubin & Noah Goldstein. Add that one up.) It's not his first apology, nor it will be his last.
If Kanye truly wants redemption, then he better be consistent and do good for the people and community. I'd also be remiss if I didn't say that he should rebuild and straighten himself out. All people who suffer from mental illness or trauma deserve help. But, as someone who suffers from bi-polarity, I don’t claim him. I don’t want to be associated with him, nor represent us.
