As a cat mom myself, who has five cats and a foster kitten, my advice is always the same: try fostering and see how it goes. It helps to learn about their needs and about how you deal with taking care of them.

That's a good idea. I had two cats growing up, but they were sort of thrust upon us, although it worked out. And my boyfriend has a cat who I adore. But I've never had a pet all on my own as an adult.
