Today Rome’s “Holy Stairs,” believed by some Catholics to have been climbed by Jesus in Jerusalem, have been uncovered from their protective wooden casing for the first time in nearly three centuries. The 28 marble steps will remain uncovered in order for devout pilgrims to climb them on their knees until they are covered again in June. The stairs are known as the “Scala Sancta,” and legend has it that they were part of Pontius Pilate’s Jerusalem palace and brought to Rome in 326 by St. Helen, the mother of Roman emperor Constantine, after she converted to Christianity. The stairs will be undergoing repairs and renovation. #Caotholicism #Jesus #HolyStairs #scalasancta #easter https://www.instagram.com/p/BwcuASjlYPY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=wfpyzzakn31b
