Elizabeth hadn’t made a concrete plan for her life after the war. Hell, there were times when she hadn’t even thought that she would be coming home, but she had made it through the war. She had made it home to start a new life. She had left the military as soon as her commission had been up only to become a delivery nurse. It had been a nice change from the life at war.
Despite the fact that she had left the Army as soon as possible it hadn’t meant she lost connection with Easy Company. She wrote letters to them all the time, especially Dick. Without a rank separating them it became much easier for her to admit her feelings for him. They had written and visited each other for years before Ellie had moved from the city to be with Dick. Now the were as happy as ever. Married for a couple year and a baby on the way.
Ellie was in the kitchen, apron tied around the small visible baby bump as she looked out the kitchen window and hummed along to the radio. Dinner was in the oven while Dick was out and about running errands. It wasn’t until she heard the front door open that she snapped out of her thoughts and headed to greet him at the door.
“I’m glad you’re home, dinner should be ready soon” she mumbled as she stood on the tips of her toes and pressed a sweet kiss to his cheek.
