A British Empire Medal will be awarded to Keith Armour of Capital Sci-Fi Con for his fundraising efforts.
While many of us swim around in the world of Star Wars to dive deep into a world we've loved since childhood, others use their fandom to do good in a very tangible way. The many costume organisations across the world chose a variety of charities to support, as do our friends at numerous conventions here in the UK and abroad, but few have done it to such stunning effect as Keith Armour and his efforts heading up Capital Sci-Fi Con. In a decade at the helm, both at the event and in satellite endeavours surrounding it, Keith and his team raised an incredible £337,000 for CHAS (Children's Hospices Across Scotland), life-changing money for any charity and the people they help. For his sterling efforts Keith has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the 2024 New Years Honours. We are over the moon that the founder of Capital Sci Fi Con, Keith Armour, has been recognised in the New Years Honours list and will receive a British Empire Medal for his incredible 10 years of support for CHAS. Keith began his support with CHAS in Christmas 2013 when he organised a toy drop off for the children at Rachel House. He never forgot the feeling he had walking through the doors at Rachel House which inspired him to organise Capital Sci Fi Con and the rest, as they say, is history. Over the ten years, Keith encouraged his friends, family and communities to support Capital Sci Fi Con and raised over £337,000. After handing Capital Sci Fi Con officially over to CHAS in July 2022, the event continues with Keith taking a well-earned rest but still supporting in a ambassador role. We are delighted to see his hard work and efforts recognised. Congratulations Keith love from the CHAS team! To Keith, huge congratulations from the Fantha Tracks team, and remember the work continues, so be sure to book your tickets for the 2024 running of Capital Sci-Fi Con on 17th and 18th February at the O2 Academy in Edinburgh. Denis Lawson is coming to Capital Sci-Fi Con 2024.
Local hero Denis Lawson returns from a galaxy far, far away to support Scotland’s only not-for-profit Capital Sci-Fi Con on 17th & 18th February 2024. Capital Sci-Fi Con is made for fans, by fans and supports the charity Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS). Keep a look out on the Capital Sci-Fi Con Facebook page for further guest announcements as we move closer to the event. https://www.facebook.com/Capitalscificon/posts/pfbid0Md7RFGdkMT6ffHsadEc7QPKrYyQdXoRTrLmUgdqb2c7KvhzZjPyc95pEkW6Uyvqsl Hello There Trivia: Rebel Fighter Pilot Wedge Antilles, call-sign ‘Red 2’ or ‘Red Leader’ to Star Wars Fans, Denis is the real world uncle of fellow Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor who plays fan favourite, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Denis’ other nephew, Ewan’s older brother, Colin McGregor, is also a fighter pilot, for the RAF, and flies under the call-sign ‘Obi-Two’ which is a riff on his brother’s Star Wars character Obi-Wan. It makes more sense when you know that ‘Wan’ is Scots slang for one. Interestingly, you could almost say Ewan was born to play the Jedi Master, already having ‘Wan’ in his name.
