Crockett on the Capitol Corridor by steve55126 Via Flickr: Sometimes you just get lucky. While set up west of Crockett, Calif., for Capitol Corridor train 531, what should appear but Amtrak train 6, the California Zephyr. The corridor train popped around the curve at the same time, resulting in this meet shot. November 15, 2011

So my public transit challenge hit a snag tonight, but I muscled through it! Had rehearsal in Fairfield tonight, normally a 50-60 minute drive, took a couple of hours on transit, which was fine for the way out. The way back was a small planning mistake. I should have realized that the rehearsal would be quick as it was. Or I should have stayed at rehearsal and not waited in the cold what was supposed to be a 30 minute wait for the train turned in 45 minutes, too. So I wasn’t totally to blame. Also, the light rail had its final outbound d train, but there was no connecting bus, so the choice was to hoof it in serious cold, or tot air Lyft. I opted for the latter. Now I’m in bed under two comforters - something I never do normally. Live and learn. For this kind of distance, it was an adventure, and starts to point out the limitations of the system. I’m still going to keep going though. My intracity transportation needs are being met perfectly well. And I suspect that with practice, the medium distance Stuff will work itself out. Solano county is two countries away, and they need to add one more train at 10:30pm and I’d be golden.

Amtrak California arrives Emeryville by Steve Brown Via Flickr: The pedestrian overpass at the Emeryville station is a nice place to watch trains of the Amtrak California service come and go. A beautiful evening adds to the enjoyment. April 20, 2010
Capitol Corridor westbound by steve55126 Via Flickr: Pinole, along San Pablo Bay north of Richmond, Calif., is a favorite area for railroad photography in the Bay Area. Here is a westbound Capitol Corridor train from Sacramento heading for Oakland behind an F59PHI. August 23, 2009
