Karnov, along with a lot of other Data East properties, is in Limbo right now. Data East went bankrupt more than ten years ago and their various properties were purchased. It appears that a company called Paon currently owns the rights to Karnov. However, there haven't been any announcements of games that would star Karnov or even feature a cameo by him. The chances are extremely good that we will never see another new Karnov game, with simply older games ported over to things like the Wii Virtual Console. But we'll always have his surprisingly complex, quite difficult arcade original title.

I distinctly remember a local commercial on Fox playing Enter Sandman by Metallica, but I can't recall if it was for a concert or advertising a radio station. All I remember is reading "Alice in Chains" in the same commercial and associating it with Alice in Wonderland.
