         No he wasn’t as close to Ruby as others were in Storybrooke but who          was he close with? The crocodile certainly didn’t count. Still that didn’t          mean he couldn’t help her, if she’d let him of course.

        His feet stopped dead in the middle of the woods, eyes narrowed towards         the familiar red cloak in the distance.

                                              “Ruby?”

          Ruby heard the voice behind her, when she turned around           she was sure she must be mistaken, of all people to come out           here in the middle of the woods, but her eyes were well adjusted           there was no doubt it was him.                            “ Hook? What are you doing here? “

He leaned in and made it quick, planting a firm but brief kiss to the mans mouth before he broke apart and stepped away.

It had all happened so quickly that Rumplestiltskin had hardly had the time to think. Before he had been able to register what was happening, it was over. The former Dark One couldn’t pretend to know what had driven the pirate to kiss him but, all things considered, it could have been far worse. Nevertheless, his face contorted into an expression of utter bewilderment as they broke apart. “What was THAT for?”

This was going to be far from one of his favourite voyages but then he had no intentions of going far. Just ten minutes out to sea and that should be enough to keep the body away so it didn’t creep back up on her later. He knew Ruby enough to know her intentions were good, probably the only reason he’d offered to help her in the first place. Normally he’d be selfish and walk on by. “So you knew him? Well or?” Setting sail he headed away from the docks for the moment.

The brunette shook her head, wrapping her arms tightly around her waist, a distant look in her eye as she stared out at the horizon, the sun slowly disappearing behind it. “Not well.” Forcing her eyes closed, she took in a shuddered breath; how long would it be before she broke down in front of the pirate? “He was Regina’s ally. Came after me with silver arrows when he learned that Snow kept a wolf as company.” What had initiated the brawl between the two on that night, Ruby didn’t care to speak off. The hunter was hell bent on finishing what he had started, particularly after she’d nearly maimed him in self-defense during their first encounter.
