rereading "search" from episode zero is getting me thinking though
no matter how i look at it, rygdea is an extremely important figure in xiii's universe and the plot surrounding it; he was the first person on cocoon that fang came to trust, and one of the major figures of the provisional government on gran pulse as well as the founding of the academy, along with bartholomew estheim.
as the second in command to raines, it's obvious that a lot of his actions were the product of mislead on cid's part because he was carrying out his focus all along (and barthandelus himself by the end when he lures the cavarly into orphan's cradle), but when you read episode zero, there are hints that he's not completely blind to everything that's happening. it's revealed that he's a much sharper, more analytic thinker than it would seem (as seen in his discussion with fang when he admits that he rarely relies on feeling/intuition and says he only goes into a fight if he knows he can win), and he sees the changes in cid's character. even if he spends most, if not all, of the game, playing out something completely orchestrated by a fal'cie, the fate of cocoon would've been much different if it hadn't been for his and the cavalry's help in keeping lightning and co. safe.
and, as i said, he's an even more important figure after the fall. so that really makes me wonder how he could possibly have about ten lines in xiii and only two optional fragments (given as rewards to captain cryptic's quizzes, if i remember correctly) mentioning him in xiii-2.
