tbh I would never want Henry to call Killian dad, am I the only one who thinks that? It just never seemed right to me. I always like the idea of them having that angsty convo with him saying he's not ready yet or something.
I’m sure that there are people that agree with you, Nonny. It’s a tricky situation and every family is different. I do think that, depending on how long the series lasts, we may not get to where Henry is comfortable calling him “Dad” (though maybe we’ll get a “my dad” when Henry’s talking to someone else, if we’re lucky), but I also think that it will happen eventually.
Killian is (or will be depending on how you look at it) Henry’s dad. He’ll be more Henry’s dad than Neal got to be (and my feelings about Neal and Emma aside, that is a tragedy, because Neal clearly wanted to be Henry’s Dad). I mean, this is the kid that within two seconds of the first curse being broken was calling David “Grandpa”, so in my mind this is something that Henry wants. It’s shown again and again that he latches onto those titles, that there’s something in them that he craves.
Maybe it’s something that comes up every now and then as a joke, never serious, until one day it is. Maybe he starts calling Killian “Dad” when his siblings (if there are any) get old enough to talk and it’s just easier that way.
Killian is going to be in Henry’s life for the rest of his life. He’s going to have years upon years upon years of memories of Killian being his father in all the ways that count. It doesn’t make few weeks he had with Neal any less important or special–and thankfully, Killian would never disparage Neal–and it doesn’t make Neal any less his father, but it would be nice to have some acknowledgment that Killian is his dad too.
(My headcanon is that Henry starts calling Killian “Dad” in his head and it just slips out one day.)
