hear me out…
A recurring gag in Disney’s Lilo and Stitch: the Animated Series is Gantu while visible in plain sight is asked why he’s so large.
Gantu responds with “I’m from Samoa” or “I’m Samoan”.
The bystanders usually accept this flimsy excuse and go about their business.
People online are saying that because they got rid of Gantu the villain of the movie is going to be Cobra Bubbles
I'm sorry but...
There is just no way they're gonna do that like that would be so fucking bad man
He's obviously an antagonist in the sense that he's going separate Lilo and Nani
But a straight up villain? That would be one of the worst decisions a live action remake has made since the casting of Gal Gadot in Snow White.
Also little side note they're probably going to tease Captain Gantu in some post credit sequel bait bullshit mark my words
In Loving memory of Gantu
For the record, besides modern Disney execs being the ones who effectively call the shots on story in their films despite being hacks, I'm not unconvinced that the reason they didn't want to do Gantu in the remake is because Gantu is huge and that would be too much for the budget.
Still, it sucks that they axed Gantu and gutted Jumba as a result...
Honestly, Gantu had it goin on.
He was a bad cop who was called out and fired for being a bad cop.
He then was a lacky for a criminal basically as revenge before turning on said criminal when he remembered what he's actually about. Then, when given his position back by the Grand Council Woman, he accepts on the condition that his stoner Rob Paulson friend whom he abandoned on Earth be there to keep him in check:
Everyone talks about Anastasia Tremaine and Iago in terms of 'Disney villains who did a character development' and got 'reformed' into good guys, but no one mentions Gantu enough and you should be ashamed.
Currently on a quest to find that one Disney Adventure magazine comic where he was at a barbecue with the other main leads in a Hawaiian shirt just hangin out. I know it happened. I saw it. It existed. Don't gaslight me and tell me it didn't happen...
A moment of silence for the Gantu fangirls and self-shippers that wanted to see their boy on the big screen again…
In light of there being NO Captain Gantu in the remake. I gift you all a picture of him in a polo.
