@merjago Day 2 - pirate! This time I wrote something lol so enjoy
“Captain,” Cole said, entering Jay’s quarters without so much as a knock. “You may want to come above deck, there’s something you need to see.”
Jay sighed. “Can the crew handle it themselves? I’m a little busy here.”
“You’re my first mate, I’m sure you can direct them to finding a solution to whatever it may be.”
Cole sighed, not going unnoticed by Jay. With an internalized groan, he set down his quill.
He stood, fixing his coat as he walked. He’d be rather annoyed if this did turn out to be something the crew could have easily handled themselves. Honestly, they didn’t need to ask him about every tiny thing.
“What is it that’s got you so—”
Jay stopped cold in his tracks.
“I told you you’d want to see this, Captain,” Cole shrugged, leaning against the mast.
There, suspended in one of their strongest fishing nets, was the most beautiful creature Jay had ever had the pleasure of laying his eyes upon.
Black hair, chopped short, covered some of her face, but the fire in her gaze shone through nonetheless. If one were to focus solely on this part of her, she could almost be assumed human.
But the rest of her, that was what made her special.
Blue, shimmering scales made up a tail very similar to that of a dolphin.
A very angry looking mermaid.
The moment Jay stepped closer, she hissed, struggling quite desperately against the net that held her captive.
“Fascinating...” Jay muttered, pausing in his advance.
He would absolutely love to study her and to find out all he could.
But he could see the fear she harbored, and it wasn’t for herself.
Jay waved his hand. “Release her.”
Cole raised his eyebrows at this, but didn’t comment.
Jay would be absolutely lying if he said he was absolutely certain about his decision, but he wasn’t about to go back now.
He wanted to know more about mermaids, but he was a pirate, not a monster. Maybe one day he would be able to learn without inspiring fear in his subject.
The second she was able, the mermaid untangled herself from the net. Instead of swimming off immediately, like Jay expected, she spared a moment’s glance at him.
They locked eyes, and that one second felt like eternity before she was gone, lost in the waves once more.
Jay wondered if he’d ever meet a more beautiful girl.
