Captain Phillip...oh Captain my Captain!
Another "based on a true story" movie, to rile up emotions of being an America...and to tell the story of brave Americans being AMURRRICAN! The last one was an awful/boring display, should you bother with the latest cinematic historic experience?
Sometimes you just got to be blunt. Captain Phillip is quite the tense film when it gets going. Tom Hanks has no problem playing the distraught role. Though I would argue that his accent is not very convincing. There is a little bit of backstory behind the pirates about their motivation, but it is just a little.
It does bring up a certain question of AMERICA. At points, the pirates did come across as a bit moronic/uneducated. I don't think it would be hard a far stretch to think that they didn't grow up with much schooling (wow, how ignorant of an American can I be?), but people could also chalk it up as a criticism to Americans being smarter or better than everyone else. It works for the film and could very well be quite accurate. Don't need to be a mastermind to have a gun and board a ship.
Despite that one non-issue, go see this movie. There is an actual story that is quite engaging and filled with tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Hands down the best "based on a story" movie this year.
