The excellent @cryptidafter tagged me. Right now it's all @playboyybingo all the time, so have a couple snippets.
“This is real?” Jump asks. “Like, real real?”
Some feral, clawed part of Porsche resents that everyone quietly considers him a liar, despite how careful Porsche has been to lie as little as he possibly could. Being scrupulous about how much of the truth you tell people isn’t the same as half the shit Captain pulls, or even Zouey’s carefully constructed walls.
He grits his teeth through the urge to lash out.
He copes variably well with the emotional wreckage that Jason Lee’s left behind. Realizing how often he’s motivated by fear has been casually humiliating, and some horrifically small and fragile part of him is always worried that this will be the thing that finally disgusts Jump into discarding him.
It wasn’t just that they fucked, good as the sex was. (It was really, really good.) The tipsy Aob leaning against Puen’s side, talking about his ex and his past, was a cracked open version of Aob that Puen had never seen before. He tried to memorize it: Aob’s eyelashes dark against his cheek, Aob’s collarbone half-hidden by his shirt, Aob’s little smirk asking if Puen liked him back without admitting he liked Puen first.
Aob wanted someone to see him almost as much as he hated the idea of someone seeing him. Puen had never before in his life wanted someone in a way that made him think about that kind of thing. Want felt too mild a description for the way his chest ached when the full weight of Aob's attention settled on him.
Without his dad depositing money into his account every month, Captain has two options.
Option one is to replace his dad with another rich old guy that will pay Captain's way. It wouldn't be hard; there's a particular kind of middle age perv that really likes their toys bratty. But a daddy is right next to a father, really. Captain doesn't want to be beholden rules or expectations. (Or end up with someone like Jason Lee, because Captain has no interest in being murdered for shooting off his mouth on the wrong day.)
Plus, Keen would hate it and not in the fun way where he pins Captain down and takes it out on his ass.
Option two is to get a job.
Which isn't impossible. It's just that the only jobs Captain has ever envisioned for himself are star athlete or vice president of something made up in his father's company where he has a big office and no one expects him to do anything. But waiting tables? Making coffee? It sounds so painfully boring, Captain's pretty sure it might kill him.
