Nikolai could never stay with a twink or a gym bro because his body craves the same physical comfort he hands out. Seasonless muscle would turn dull for him too quickly; sure, Mr. White from the club was well-built, but where's the texture? Where's the insulation and the warmth he excpects for a hug?

It just wouldn't work, because they could never thrive in the various secluded cabins Nik wants to share. An underfed man could not last days in the Arctic Circle with him.

He thinks that's why he and the Captain click. The man's so much fuller than he looks; Always on a tough schedule, of course, but he eats decently well. Nik had noticed the Lieutenant and Kyle routinely topped his desk with takeout, sometimes a nice homemade dish. That was probably his primary source of fuel.

It hurt to be "friends with benefits". Nikolai wants to worship the man, squeeze his juices out, treat him to all the foods he learned to make after traveling the world. And he wants those grounding pats in the morning, in his own kitchen where the job doesn't force up the need for it.

He craves John's body for more than just occasional sex. But the Captain just isn't ready for that, and that's okay. Nik has time.
