Raider: Edited.
The sun peeked over the horizon as a lone ship silently glided across the water. Her sleek hull was ashen in color and her foremast held sails that glowed brilliant white as they billowed in the early morning breeze. On her deck creatures of various origins such as Griffons, ponies and even a small drake scampered across the deck as they performed their duties responsible for keeping the ship seaworthy until they made port. Astern next to the helmsgriffon stood a creature covered in a long coat and wearing large tricorn hat. His fiery gold eyes tracked each of his crew members as they worked.
“Val, set a course to the north we need to make port by tonight.” He spoke in a voice that had a faint buzzing.
“Aye Captain.” Val, a cream colored griffon, replied as she moved her claws and slowly turned the wheel to alter the ship’s course. Her eyes scanned ahead of the bow as she looked for any hazards to the ship and the crew. She blew a stray feather out of the view of one of her ice-blue eyes.
Her captain had disappeared to the small living space beneath her paws. Once he was sure that the door was locked, the Captain shed his cloak and hat to reveal his black chitin and a jagged, curved horn. He trotted over to his table, where a small journal sat. He removed his sword and gun belt, setting them aside, and took a seat. The Changeling picked up a quill and dipped it in ink before starting to make an entry on the most recent page of the journal.
After many moons of sailing, we have still not located the Ursa or her escort. I fear she may have slipped our grasp in the strait, but for now we will make port, as my crew is restless.I expect they would appreciate a brief shore leave. We also need more food, as the stock is starting to run low and the Odyssey needs some repairs after sailing through that devil of a storm. I am also eager to see if there has been any news…
He sighed, leaving his sentence unfinished, and signed his name at the bottom of the entry.

Almost home free.
Raider stared at the celling in his captain’s cabin as the Odyssey made her way towards the port of canary reef, a small settlement of griffons and ponies. He looked down at the small unopened envelope that he was mindlessly turning over in his hooves. Should I look? D-do I want to know what it is. His mind fruitlessly searched for the answer but he knew none would come. He let out a raspy sigh as he got up and put his coat on before heading above deck.

“Captain, the look outs have spotted land!” Val called as Raider made his way up to the helm of his ship.
“Is it the port we seek?” His gold eyes scanned the sea to find the island that his look outs had spotted.
“Hard to tell from this distance Captain, but sails had been spotted not too far off of our port bow near the islands.”
“How long will it take us to get there?”
Val looked over as a crew member brought a knotted rope to her that had ten of its knots soaked.
“At our current speed as least half a day or so.”
Raider nodded and looked over the deck as his crew scrambled back and forth.
“Lads, make ready for the last leg of our journey!” Raider called as the crew stopped and gave him their undivided attention. “I know we have been at sea for well of 3 months now with nothing to show for it, and I know many of you are itching to get some time away from the ship. But we are not home free just yet.” Raider trotted down to the main deck and looked those he passed in the eye. “We still have a ways to go and that means we need to be ready for anything, so get the cannons ready and be vigilant.” Raiders speech was met with cheers as his crew double timed their pace making the Odyssey battle ready.
“Captain, surely we won’t be attacked this close to shore.”
Raider looked out over the sea at the aft of the ship. “It’s been too quite for too long and I doubt the royal navy has given up on us.” Before he turned away Raider could of sworn he had seen the white tips of a ships sails on the horizon.

The creature she had referred to as Captain had disappeared to the small living space beneath her lion paws. Once he was sure that the door was locked the Captain shed his cloak and hat revealing black chitin and a jagged curved horn. He trotted over to a table where a small bound journal sat as he removed his sword and gun belt from his waist. Taking a seat the Changeling picked up a quill and dipping it in ink started to make an entry on the empty page of the journal.
