Some back story For Ben back when he was still a child. Some of you may remember some rough sketches I did for this, I suddenly felt like having a real go at it! Consider it practice because I want to start the Escart comic properly soon!

I feel like I learned a lot with this, what to do and what not to do next time, what I need to develop more, and so on! For now, enjoy this rather depressing blossoming of Ben's extraordinary strength 💪

#Doodles #SCII #Captain Sterling #NEJ #KUP #Quickly! Before the end of 2023 notices! (The year has been over for two and a half months now lol)#So yeah I found some mid-'23 doodles that I realized didn't make it into the yearly roundup either! So here they are now!#Silly lads #Mostly just speculating about Sterling and my VUX lads' chemistry lol - they have a little bit of chemistry with each other as well #Mostly as friends tho mostly as friends - NEJ is not particularly inclined to be around other similarly sentient species lol #He taps out at plants plants are good for him #He is fascinated by plants communicating with the chemicals they release tho - don't let him near a Supox I don't know what will happen yet #ANYway this is supposed to be about him and Sterling! And KUP and Sterling!#Yeah NEJ doesn't feel particularly strongly about this Captain lol - he's just Some Guy who occasionally brings by plants but also talks #Take the good with the bad and all that lol #KUP is the type that's fun and easy to wind up so Sterling does lol - Captains are silly nuisances this is known #But is it just play or is it something more?? Captain Sterling are you picking on him because you don't know how to express yourself #He /is/ young #I am still labouring under the impression that VUX are generally taller than humans I just think it's Fun #If he's going to be this hom around KUP what the hell is he gonna be like around ZEX #I just think an openly flirty Captain in return would be fun! Space Faring Romancing!#Guess he'll find out once he gets there lol

Well and Sterling but he's always invited lol being Captain has some advantages #I feel like when I first made NEJ I tried to make something similar to that first image but couldn't manage it? :0 I don't really rememeber #I'm not finding any indication of such so I must've just thought about it really hard lol - technically I didn't successfully draw it! Lol #Happy it exists now tho :D #NEJ loves his plants <3 I mean that was part of why he was exiled lol - not for anything indecent he just likes plants more than other VUX #He's more of a romantic in that sense lol #But now he gets to spend all his time around plants! And ZEX doesn't have to worry about vetting for safe environments/food! Win-win!#He's also pro-ZEX so that didn't help his case - he doesn't hate humans but he doesn't like them either #Although he can only deal with VUX about double what he can with humans haha poor lad #He's got some mild-ish scopophobia and general dislike of social interactions - he was shunned for a while before getting the boot #But now he's got a job with plants he loves and a tinted-lense mask that helps soothe him! Got it made in the sun ♪#He does still get picked on tho haha <3 Spending all that time alone has corroded what little social skills he had to begin with #Jokes are definitely not his forte but he tries he's a good lad :)#Would VUX even breathe CO2 would them talking to an Earthen plant do anything lol #It's probably for the best he kept his mask on haha #Pollen season comes around and NEJ is pink and puffy but also very happy lol

Though I have been tossing around the idea of co-opting the nameless design I made years ago and retroactively making him KUP lol #I thought of this Very Funny joke on the way home and was so excited to implement it and use VUK ZIX - which is not mine btw lol #I'm not entirely sure how to credit it? AFAIK they're not here on tumblr but I'm not sure? Big big credit to eco_mono on LJ!#It's a very cool alphabet! :D There are still some parts I don't understand - like R being a vowel but O being a consonant?#Would that make ''TRO'' an acceptable name by VUX standards? :0 I do like the idea of it being a kind of push-sound I think it's neat :)#But as you can intuit by my not actually spelling his name with a C - there wasn't a C listed in the alphabet and my silly joke crumbled :'D #But when has that stopped me! I can figure it's because C is kind of phonetically extraneous with both S and K as consonants so use K!#Sterling would probably intentionally soften the ''K'' sound so it implies a ''C'' and KUP gets so mad about it lol ♪ ''I can hear that!''#Something something harshness of tone/strength of breath while speaking - subtleties of spoken language since they're so visually different #It's fun to think about ♪#There's also something funny to the difference of ''>o<'' to a human and ''>O<'' to a VUX lol ♪#And then more thoughts about phoneticisms and translation - specifically thinking about VIJ writing the Captain's name for him #I'm still going back and forth on whether Sterling's name would be translated as two or three syllables in VUK ZIX - I kinda like both tbh #Either ''SER LIN'' or ''SET TER LIN'' - the latter with emphasis on the middle syllable and a drop-off on the first #Which would take priority? Matching syllables or the consonant T break? Maybe both for different contexts??#As well as the fact that -ing sounds wouldn't really have precedent being a vowel at the beginning followed by two consonants #So the rounded G sound at the end of his name would be completely skipped over - would they even have a soft palette to constrict??#Ahh <3 It's really fun to think about!! ♫#Anyway he goes back to explain later and KUP smacks him lol #''Do not make a crass joke at the expense of my name >O('' lol

New OC gotta make several concept doodles #I'm a bit happier with these but how much of that is because half is chibi and I have an older version lol #I prefer drawing older characters these days I should probably practice with younger ones but adults are more fun #I mean he is an adult but barely lol #He's still likely a teen! He's baby #I doodled the Captain in PJs a while back and gave those right to Sterling lol #Simple comfy clothes are a big favourite of mine ♪#His hair is supposed to be a bit on the thinner side so it can fit comfortably in the jewelry but that does tug on his scalp a bit #Taking it off to sleep feels nice #And he can cover one eye!
