Bagginshield Prompt #7

Little Mermaid + POTC mermaid, kind of, not exactly.

Captain Thorin is saved by merman Bilbo after a storm, they fall in love but pirate Smaug offers Thorin Bilbo’s legs if he convinces the merman to grant him passage to the merman realm, he takes Thorin to their meeting place were Thorin pushes Bilbo away, causing Smaug to shot him, Bilbo saves Thorin from Smaug and Bungo notices their love and finally grants Bilbo his legs.

Captain Thorin’s ship is damaged after a storm were he ends up overboard, passing merman Bilbo saves him and takes him to safety. When Thorin wakes up he thinks he is dead because he is seeing angels, making Bilbo blush.

Thorin stays in the tiny piece of land that Bilbo took him while he recovers from his injuries, there he and the merman become close, when it’s time for Thorin to leave, he gives Bilbo a big passionate kiss, making the merman ask for Thorin to return to him one day, and Thorin does, many times, soon they are completely in love with each other, they don’t worry of who may see them, the mist and mangrove swap kind of rocks are enough to cover them, until it doesn’t.

One day, Smaug’s pirate ship attacks Thorin’s but he isn’t looking for gold, in the privacy of Thorin’s quarters Smaug tells him that his meetings with his merman is close, if not exactly, over a merman’s entrance, if he makes his merman open the gates for him, then he will give legs to his beloved.

Thorin knows of Smaug’s magic and incantations, everybody does, a simple couple of legs is the least he can do but what good is a Bilbo with legs when he will hate him forever? That gate has access to Bilbo’s family and home

Smaug doesn’t wait for him to answer and takes Thorin captive and goes to their meeting place, he leaves Thorin to take care of Bilbo alone but Thorin knows that Smaug’s gun is following his every move. As usual, Bilbo leaps from the water towards Thorin to give him one big kiss, one that this time Thorin gives with utter desperation, a good-bye, followed by him taking Bilbo’s throat, he spats that he never loved him and all kinds of none sense and throws Bilbo as far as he can and as close to the mangrove like rocks that will protect him once he enters them.

Bilbo, crying and heartbroken, starts to swim in between the rocks when he hears a gunshot, he quickly goes back and is horrified to see Thorin laying on the ground with a wound on his stomach and struggling to breath, then he sees a man in red with a gun still emitting smoke and telling Thorin that he is an idiot

“You could have a lovely human in your arms right now, not a merman hating you until eternity”

Thorin struggles to talk but he tells Smaug between coughs that he will never understand because he has never loved anyone, specially not the way Thorin loves Bilbo, in a smaller voice he adds that Bilbo would never hate him until eternity “He is too good for that” He says with a smile.

Smaug is ready to finish Thorin off when a bone dagger goes straight to his chest, Bilbo knows mermen keep daggers hidden in the rocks so he frantically searched for one and he does have a skill in conkers if you must know.

Bilbo takes Thorin and hopes beyond hope that they can pass the gate, he doesn’t know what makes someone go through it but it is the only chance Thorin has to live, breathing underwater is no problem, a merman’s kiss will grant you that gift.

Bungo and Belladona Baggins are shocked to know that their son has been sneaking out to meet this man but Bungo is at ease, he explains that only a pure heart with pure intentions can pass the gate, everyone has come with ideas of conquest, treasure or glory, that is why the myth of completely closed gates was formed. Thorin would rather die than to see Bilbo’s home in the hands of a pirate like Smaug. Bungo also adds that the moment he truly loved Bilbo, he would have passed the gates without the need to put his life in peril

Thorin recovers but then they have to face the sad truth, Thorin must go back, Bilbo tells Thorin to stay

“I promise to kiss you everyday to let you breath underwater!”

It is Bungo who saves the day, telling Bilbo he will give him his legs, so he can live on the surface, which he knows he is a fan, his mother is also a fan after all, Bilbo is shocked and ask if he can really do that, Bungo gets mad at him because Bilbo thinks a low life pirate has more skills than his own father but yes he can.

Bilbo finally gets his legs and goes to live with Thorin.

(How Bilbo adapts to the surface is another prompt that I’ll probably make some other time)
