May 28, 1998 The world tragically lost a comedic icon in a senseless, avoidable incident. At 2 am, While in his bed, actor Phil Hartman was gunned down by his wife, Brynn Hartman. Jealous of her husbands success and under the influence of a mixture of alcohol, cocaine and Zoloft, she shot him 3 times while he slept in their home. After the murder, she ran to a near-by neighbor and confessed to the crime. The neighbor, not believing this story, went over to the house for himself, where he discovered Phil's body. The neighbor immediacy called 911. After a 4 hour standoff with police, Brynn Hartman decided barricade herself in their bedroom and made the decision to take her own life, laying next to her husband. Two tragic deaths that shook the world. You might remember Phil Hartman from shows like The Simpsons. (See what I did there?) a part of childhood died that day. Not only had the world just lost Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz, changing the Simpsons forever, but I will always remember him as Captain Carl from Pee-Wee's playhouse and from his appearances on SNL. Without the talent of Phil Hartman, a lot of the stuff I grew up watching as a child never would have existed. As sad as his death was, I am so grateful for all the smiles his charming, charismatic, and hilarious characters gave me. Gone but never forgotten, RIP Phil Hartman ❤️ #philhartman #lionelhutz #troymcclure #ripphilhartman #captaincarl #thesimpsons #simpsons #peeweesplayhouse #peeweesbigadventure #simpsonsfanart #fanart
