     her entire day was cleared except for one patient, the one that she knew probably needed the most time and attention. being captain was not easy for anyone but, somehow, jim kirk managed to balance it all along with everything he was still holding in. it had been awhile since they had sat down and spoken about everything so she ordered him to come to her office that day, wanting to make sure all was well. quietly she sat at her desk when their was the sound of someone knocking upon her door. already she could guess who it was.

              “come in, captain.”

                "you aren't supposed to be here."

     her science team is already waist-deep in the dig      site's technological archives; the military section      accompanying them split off to set the perimeter      of their camp. she had gone off alone to scout out      the area, see the sights, confirm the reported lack      of hostile presence. it is quite a beautiful world; it      reminds her, almost, of virmire, a correlation that      leaves a bitter taste in her mouth.

                         she'd expected to encounter nothing. she'd worried she                          might find geth. the thought of a human in an unfamiliar                          yellow uniform had not even crossed her mind.

                                                           "our intel said this planet was uninhabited."
