How crazy is it to drive to Canada?
So if you've looked over my 26 before 26, you'll see that my #15 item is "Vacation to Canada!" My dear friend Jodi is getting married this summer, and I want to be there. My parents want to give me the cost of a plane ticket for my graduation present to help me get up there, and Aaron wants to go, too, and make a vacation out of it. We priced tickets last night, and they're going to cost about $600 a piece. We also ran the math on driving, and found that the gas costs will be about half that--the price of one ticket. So we're thinking about driving.
I've never done a drive this long before. In high school, I did make the drive from Mississippi to the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania to see family--1, 146 miles. It's just over 2,000 miles to get to Jodi & Dylan in Edmonton. But I think it could be interesting! We'd see a lot of the country I've never been to. We've also talked about taking a tent and camping on the road instead of staying in hotels. There's also the plus side of having a car once we get to Canada, so we'd have increased mobility and be able to drive out to some of the more rural "post card" places, as Aaron calls them.
Downsides are increased travel time and whoa that's a long time in a car. But right now, I'm leaning road trip.
Have any of you ever taken huge road trips like this? Thoughts?
