Origin Series: Ursula
Chapter One: Green meets Black
Ursula was absolutely furious at her classmates. Not only had they ruined a spell that she had spent nearly a week on, they accused her of ruining the coral playground with it. Now she was stuck in detention, all because they were bunch of spineless jellyfishes, all of whom had rotten fish for brains. To make matters worse Mr.Halibut, her homeroom teacher, had believed those lying bottom feeders and made her clean it up. She wasn't the one who knocked over a boiling cauldron full of Atlantic Shark scales and deep sea kelp; she had done everything in her power to prevent a rerun of “The Incident”, except that didn't matter much to Mr.Halibut, having not only suspended Ursula from bringing her magic books and spells back to school but also making her apologize to her classmates for ruining the stupid playground. By the time she was released Ursula was enraged; humiliation festered within her heart as she swam rapidly away from her school to her private sanctuary just beyond the city, a place where she knew she could be utterly alone.
Ursula was fast approaching the semi-large grotto in the distance, with its innocuous looks and a large rock covering the only entrance no one had bothered to investigate it. It helped that her classmate had spread those stupid rumors of this area being haunted by a sea witch. Ursula had eventually slowed down to catch her breath and started leisurely swimming to the rock door (she put a spell on it so she could push it easily). She was seconds from pushing the rock when she heard a soft, nearly silent muffled sob. Curiously and dread churned in Ursula as she peeked through a crack between the rock and the wall, and with a limited view Ursula had gotten flashes of green and red.
The colors moved again, this time to a location where Ursula could see the figure clearly, and all she could do was curse Poseidon for her bad luck. Ursula just wanted to escape the barnacle minded mermen and be granted some peace, and here inside her only sanctuary was a tiny red-haired mermaid crying her eyes out in the middle of HER cave. Ursula bite back a growl and took a second look at the little girl, she couldn't be any older than ten years old judging by her small frame and soft scales. It did not help that Ursula couldn't get a good look at the girl’s face with her red hair shielding it. Whats more the girl’s ghastly dry heaving and sniffles sounded like a new born manatee, it was giving Ursula a headache and making pity slowly bloom in Ursula’s heart. That did not mean however that Ursula was willing to help her, she snapped herself out of her thoughts and reminded herself of the rather horrific day that the mermen had caused her, and Ursula did not need someone else’s problems to make it worse.
Still, Ursula mulled over her options, if she did help the girl there would be no way to tell how long the girl would stay and annoy her and Ursula really needed the quiet right now. Ursula also thought that she could potentially scare the girl into leaving, with a good three years on the mermaid and her ink black legs and pale skin Ursula was sure she could frighten the girl enough to make her run away. She weighed her options and decided to go with the latter choice and sighed out in annoyance about the extra effort she would have to use to get some privacy. Steeling her mind Ursula pushed the rock to give herself just enough room to squeeze in, trying to make as little noise as possible hoping to get the jump on teary eyed girl.. The girl however, apparently had the hearing of a dolphin and turned around so fast Ursula was afraid she would get whiplash.
It was at that exact moment puffy green eyes met angry brown ones.
