2. Their smile

Shae smiles rarely, unless it’s at someone else’s expense. Being Dalish and a mage, he’s used to people thinking little of him, or making jokes about his appearance. So when he smiles, it’s usually something to be wary about. Except in the rare instances that you’re someone he cares deeply about. Then, his smile is something rare and precious, to be treasured.

10. Their fashion sense

Shae is gorgeous and he knows it, dressing both to best suit his appearance and to scandalize the shems around him. He has no concern for the fashion that the nobility of the Chantry idolizing people follow, and he dresses as the Dalish do, making sure it will be the most offensive and horrifying, while at the same time showing him off to best effect.

Shae is motivated by his ridiculous sense of responsibility. He wants to live his own life and yet he is so given over to what others need of him that he sacrifices his own happiness for the sake of others.

thank you for sending me this! also i hope that you don’t mind that i made it about meical since he’s pretty much my go-to character. putting this under a cut because of length

“So what if I broke my arm? I’m still going to do it,” Meical winced despite himself as he tried to shrug, deflecting Solas’ reprimands.

He laid his head back against the floor, the upper levels of the rotunda suddenly seeming very far away. The quick thud of feet descending the staircase caught his attention, and he twisted his neck to see Dorian’s upside-down figure entering.

“Told you I could make the jump,” Meical laughed.

Dorian looked from Meical; stretched flat on the floor, his breath coming in shallow spurts, whether that was from his pained laughter or from having the wind knocked out of him, Dorian didn’t know; to Solas who kneeled beside Meical, wearing his exasperation in every tired crease on his face.

“If you consider this ‘making it’, perhaps you knocked your head on your way down as well,” Dorian said with affection, before pausing and turning to Solas. “He didn’t, did he?”

“Please, I’m fine,” Meical scoffed and tried to sit up, but was interrupted by Solas pressing his hand against his shoulder, keeping him down.

“No, nothing like that,” Solas sighed. “I fear the impact caused a minor fracture, and this chaos,” he gestured to the stacks of paper and books that now littered the floor instead of his desk. “But his mental faculties are unharmed, as they ever were.”

Solas stood up, surveying the room with a look of resignation. Dorian shot him an apologetic glance. After all, this wasn’t the first time Meical had attempted a jump down to the bottom level of the tower. However, it could be considered Dorian’s fault that Meical had been goaded into jumping from the roost, where he had to perch uncomfortably, his legs tucked in under him on the railing. One joke about “always getting into interesting positions with the Inquisitor” later, and Meical had lost his balance, sending him tumbling all the way down to the floor.

“Is anyone going to help me up?” Meical’s tone was still light and airy, seemingly unfazed by the way his arm hung limp at his side.

Dorian kneeled down, scooping Meical up into his arms before the other man could protest, careful not to jostle his injured left arm, and started to leave.

“I’m taking you to the surgeon to let her look at this, and I don’t want to hear a thing about it.”

“Oh, I do so love it when you take control,” Meical snorted. “Technically, I won the bet, you know. So, does this mean that you’ll let me-”

“Let’s discuss your winnings later, in private,” Dorian interrupted, speeding up his pace to make sure that they were out of Solas’ earshot. “And we’ll have to wait until you’ve healed. You’re going to need use of both of your hands,” he added with a grin.

im honestly surprised that i havent asked yet but could you tell me about meical and dorian breaking up? (i think i meant to ask and forgot haha)

sorry for taking a while to reply to this, but yeah of course i’ll talk about it!

early on in their relationship, meical is all set to do what he always does - give them both a few months (or however long it takes for meical to lose interest) together. he knows from the start that this will be different, since neither he nor dorian can leave once they’re done with each other. meical hasn’t had to deal with the fallout of a breakup before, so that was always a worry in his mind.

at first, it isn’t big enough to act on. just because it will hurt later, doesn’t mean that he should deny himself intimacy. but as time goes on, his feelings for dorian grow stronger. meical has only felt like this once before, and that didn’t last either. the guilt over what he believes will inevitably happen gets harder to bear, but he tries his best to push it to the side. he lets himself get swept up in the illusion, letting dorian believe that what they have is something special, something more. it is, he isn’t lying, but the thought of the day when it stops feeling that way terrifies him.

then something happens that meical didn’t expect. steffan, meical’s first lover, the only person before dorian who had ever managed to keep meical’s attention for more than a few weeks, the one whom meical left in kirkwall without so much as a note of explanation, writes a letter to the inquisition. inquisitor lavellan has gained some notoriety, and steffan took a chance to get some closure. the letter is amicable, if somewhat harsh in places, overall much better than meical deserves.

this makes meical think. if he could love steffan as much as he did, and yet throw him away without hesitation, he would surely do the same to dorian. and if steffan still carried that hurt after all this time, what hope did dorian have of letting it go? the weight of meical’s actions finally hit him, and after many introspective, sleepless nights on the ramparts he makes a decision. he’ll break their relationship off sooner rather than later, before dorian can convince himself further that meical is someone he can rely on.

meical tells himself that it’s for the best, even as dorian’s jaw sets in a hard line and he tells him to leave. we’ll both be happier this way, he convinces himself, as he pointedly stops assigning dorian to missions at his side. i made a mistake, he realises, when he sees the glances passing between dorian and bull.

so, add meical making some awkward attempts at confessing his feelings and getting dorian to forgive him, and that’s where they’re at right now. meical is miserable, dorian is (slightly less) miserable, krem is getting tired of meical’s moping, bull is relatively happy (if slightly uncomfortable with the tension between them).

i just found out i cant download trespasser and maybe this is weird but do you think you could tell me some fun facts about meical (or any other dragon age pc!) to cheer me up? thanks so much!

oh no i’m sorry you can’t download trespasser! i feel your pain though, i can’t either because origin won’t let me. so yes of course i’ll tell you some fun facts about my trash son

here are some facts: meical had his first kiss when he was 14. it was with a girl from his clan, and it was all very sweet and awkward. meical’s oldest sister eirian saw them coming out of the bushes together, and meical had to bribe her with taking over her chores for a month to get her to not tell on him. he kept seeing that girl for a few weeks after that, before his interest faded.

at skyhold, he dries herbs and flowers and hangs them up around his room. he does it both for decoration, and because the scents make him think of the forest, make him think of home. dorian helps him find interesting flowers while they’re travelling (while they’re broken up, there are days when meical can’t bring himself to look at the ones dorian picked out).

meical’s favourite animal is the fennec fox. he still hasn’t managed to get close enough to one to pet it. he’s horrified by the suggestion that he could just set a trap and catch one, either one will come to him out of free will or it won’t come at all.
