We're Having a Baby (Part I)
For @captofthesswolfstar <3
"Remus!! Remus, we're having a baby!!"
"Oh?" Remus raised an eyebrow, his eyes remaining focused on his book. "I didn't realize you were pregnant."
"No, you idiot!! Prongs!!"
"You know," Remus shrugged casually, "You really shouldn't refer to your boyfriend as "You Idiot". He may get the wrong impression."
"Remus!" Sirius' tone was sharper than before and Remus glanced up, sensing the urgency in his partner's voice. Sirius' face was flushed, his breathing rapid, the old muggle phone still clutched tightly in his hand.
"Oh shit..."
"Yeah..."
"Sirius... We're having a baby!"
"We're having a baby, Moons! We're having a baby!"
Remus leaped up from his seat, his book falling lifelessly to the floor. They had planned for this a dozen times, they knew this was coming, yet somehow it still took them by surprise. The werewolf looked around, whipping his head from side to side, scanning the flat for... There it was. The bag.
Prongs couldn't be trusted with it, all four Marauders knew that, so the responsibility fell on Remus. It was his job to take Lily's bag to the hospital when the time came.
"Grab that, Sirius," Remus said sharply, pointing to the large diaperbag filled to the brim with every conceivable necessity for a woman who was about to give birth. "I'll get the fire ready."
Sirius scooped up the bag and headed to where his boyfriend was standing and conjuring up a roaring flame.
"You ready, Pads?"
"No," Sirius scoffed, attempting to hide his nerves with a grin. "Not really. Everything's gonna change... Prongs is gonna be a dad, Reme... Everything's gonna be different..."
Remus smiled softly at his boyfriend and reached over to grab his hand, weaving their fingers together.
"I meant: "Are you ready to go to St. Mungo's"." Remus leaned into Sirius, pressing their shoulders together. "You're right, Sirius. Things are gonna be different. You're gonna be a godfather. We're gonna have someone new in our lives who will look up to us. There's gonna be a tiny new Marauder. Things won't ever be the same again, but that's not a bad thing. It's just a new chapter."
Padfoot closed his eyes and squeezed his Moony's hand tighter.
"Hey Moons..."
"Yeah?"
"We're having a baby..."
"We are. Are you ready?"
"I think I might be."
Both men took a step forward simultaneously, shouting "St. Mungo's!" into the fireplace. Green flames erupted and enveloped them, then suddenly, the little London flat was empty.
