Haaa no. Nope. Jkr IS Harry Potter. Yeah she wasn't directly involved with the game but she'll sure as fuck get royalties. Besides that, you're voting with your wallet against trans people. Donating to charities as well as buying the game doesn't do shit when the goal is to disprove jkr.

Separating the author from their work is basically impossible with hp, you have a creator who is actively choosing to use her platform and wealth to hurt and strike out against a marginalised group. She knows this and she's choosing to continue. Despite the crowds of people trying to educate and speak out, she chose to write a giant fuck off essay basically stating why she's right and is only trying to "save" women. (when trans women are in fact, women too). She's so heavily tied to the world she created. The game devs will be fine, jkrs influence puts a group of people in danger.

Read other books. Thats where I'm starting, because honestly i dont know what else to do. And that's okay! to not know is a okay. Greif is a process, it takes time and dialogue. Im also listening to a lot of trans voices on the matter.

I genuinely believe we can still call Hogwarts home because it has been a safe space for a lot of people. Hogwarts is ours here, she can talk as long as she wants but we have made HP ours a long time ago. I refuse to believe all our headcanons, ships and ideas were all in vain.

I am all in for letting JKR go rot in whatever TERF world she pleases in and not spending another dime on HP because it will benefit her but I don’t think I can let HP go because JKR insists on being transphobic and can’t be convinced that she is wrong. Harry Potter means more to me than the books she wrote, I don’t think I can handle getting rid of such a huge part of my life.

A few thoughts on creative burnout;

For the longest time I've been telling myself I'll return here. I'll come back to the place that has felt like home for the longest time. But I feel so empty, confused and I cant force anything I'm proud of. Creativity kind of ebbs and flows. I cant count on always feeling like I'm gonna make something I'm proud of. Which is really difficult as a creative person. Feeling like I need to force myself to get back on track, to put all my focus on making when I feel so uninspired. But creativity doesn't always work that way. I wish I could accept the uninspired times, use it as a recharge instead of a worry.

Burnout is natural. Creative processes can make you feel tired and empty. And it's not that I'm sad it's that I've put so much of myself into something that there is nothing more of my soul to pull out into the world for a time. And its a natural cycle. Flowers use all their energy to bloom in Spring and Summer and then they rest to bloom again next year. Stop judging and pushing yourself if you're not ready. You're not being lazy, the spark will return again. Trust the nature of creativity.

Currently level 5, I’ve been playing it on and off and it doesn’t seem to chew up much of my phone battery. My lil wizard character struggles to keep up with my location when im in the car, but the fact that the game recognises when you’re in a car and puts you on a broom makes up for it for now. It also feels a bit awkward being outside and looking like you’re trying to take a photo of the people directly infront of you, but it was a bit like that at the beginning of PokemonGo.

Level 7 update/thoughts: I’m an auror bitches (you can pick from a few different professions)

Also I was super curious about what the team challenges would be for this, considering the aim of the game being “go find and capture magical creatures”, and for it to be a very basic dungeon crawl was a bit lack luster for me tbh. I thought it would be something more or at least get to see everyone fighting and doing damage. I thought it was really great how PokemonGo made it team based and gave it a sense of drive to see as many towers in your colour. These dungeon crawls Wizards Unite have are just ‘trace the same thing over again and take a health potion’. I have no drive to want to do them? I dunno, I feel the game is pretty fun but there’s no chance for a community to be built within it.

If im being super honest after 3 days of playing it, I feel like I’ve done everything and now all im doing is leveling things up.. For no real sake? PokeGo was the same concept, go capture pokemon and fight, but I had such a drive to go out and find my favourite pokemon or evolve it. Wizards Unite is just falling a little flat for me at the moment. I keep finding the same few things and brewing the same 3 potions and it feels like there’s no real point? Im not invested in the sticker system they have. I think they had such a cool opportunity to create a game for the older fans, not using hogwarts as a focus for once and to use the wand dueling we’ve all seen and awed over, and have somehow made it.. Well kinda boring. This is just my opinion right now. I’m aware it’s still in beta, they do have somewhat of a mystery to be solved plot but its not nearly as engaging as it should be. My mind might change as I level up and maybe unlock new cooler things. But level 7, ya kinda boring me.

Side note: I’m pretty sure Niantic aren’t trying to make another PokemonGo. They made something incredible for such a huge fanbase that worked in “the real world”. The Wizarding World already kind of had a system in the real world, and just making it a “find this thing… And this thing… And this thing!” with no objective other than to maybe find a clue for characters I dont know nor did they try to make me care about. At least finding and evolving a bunch of pokemon gave you better chances at beating that level 50 Gyarados on the Valor team.
