Hello!
Welcome! This blog was created as a requirement for a college course I'm in, DFX352 - Project Research Management. I'm keeping this blog to keep track of my progress, both for my professor and for my own organization. So, let me introduce myself!
My name is Lily Hoerr, and I'm currently attending NKU. My goal for this semester is to create a video game demo area in Unreal Engine 5 with a stylized environment and animal NPCs (spoiler: the animals are capybaras) that have unique dialogue and can be interacted with. I'm going to be using an online course for the environment creation since it's entirely new territory to me, but I'm going to model, rig, animate, and program the capybaras based mostly on prior knowledge.
One of the goals of this project is not just to get it done, but to understand everything that I'm doing. I plan on taking the time to do extra research on things that I don't understand so I can apply it to future projects.
For organization and consistency, I'm going to post weekly posts and daily logs.
Weekly posts: These will organize each week's main focus, a description of what I'm accomplishing (in a more artistic sense; what kind of experience am I building for the user?), and a bullet list of concrete expectations I have for myself for the week. It will also summarize what I got done the previous week, determine if I met my goals, and how I feel about the work I did.
Daily logs: Basically just a quick bulleted list of what I've gotten done for the day, screenshots of my work, and a little blurb of how I'm feeling about the work I got done that day. I'll probably only post on days I finish some aspect of the project.
Right now I'm working on a project proposal, and I'll post my Week 1 goals once I finish! From what I'm considering now, week 1 will probably be for concept art, basic project setup, and project organization.
If you're still reading, you're either my professor, a classmate, or some stranger with nothing better to do. Regardless, thank you for sticking through this! As this is a project I would like to expand on and turn into a full game someday, hopefully you can consider this the start of my game dev career!
