In October 1958, Princeton University sophomore Eric Grinnel '61 had an unconventional workaround for the rule barring students from having cars on campus: He just got himself a horse and buggy (which resulted in this cover of the Princeton Alumni Weekly).

After July 1, 1927, no undergraduate shall, while college is in session, maintain or operate an automobile within the Borough of Princeton or in the neighborhood thereof, without the consent of the President of the University or the Dean of the College.

Princeton University’s “car rule.” This ban on student driving was in effect for a little over 40 years, from 1927-1968, albeit with some later modifications.
