Easy Caramel Rolls
Grandmas recipe
Chapter Six of my first Bagginshield fic, "Dear Your Majasty Mister Oakenshield", is now available on AO3 featuring a bit of Upper Midwestern American pastry, Dwarven table manners (or lack thereof), and Thorin nearly having a minor stroke while he figures out what the hell is going on. Enjoy a sneak peek!
In the morning Thorin realized he would need more than sturdy boots to work his way into an audience with Bilbo, so he set off as the sun rose. He had a bit of an advantage, having once been so familiar with this community, so he knew exactly where he needed to go. Even so, it took some time to locate his target and even more time and a not inconsiderable application of kingly charm to procure his intended offerings.
Feeling a great deal more prepared, armed not only with a plan but a gift as well, he returned to the apartment door at what he hoped was a respectable hour for calling upon Hobbits. His knock was carefully courteous and light.
Before he could be rejected this time, Thorin held out the cloth covered basket in his hands and, just in case, he readied his foot. The heavenly aroma of fresh-baked, sugar-laden bread was the first thing that greeted Bilbo as he cracked open the door. Thorin was deeply satisfied to see Bilbo's eyes flutter shut as he inhaled slowly, and the door fell all the way open.
"What on Arda is that decadent smell?"
Thorin flushed a bit at the throaty quality to the Hobbit's voice. Pastries had never elicited quite such a response in his experience.

Don’t get me wrong, cinnamon rolls are good... but caramel rolls are just so much better.
